Latham from Beeston Primary

OMG this book is soooooooooooooooooo cool and gory at the same time, But I have to say that it was obvious that gulliver truepin was the eyeball collecter it may have given me nightmares because of bit involving all those butterflies being pinned onto Lady Mandibles dress I mean the RSPCA chairmen wwould have had a blooming fit a mean all those little butterflies fluttering for freedom.
Then there was the cat eater who in the right state of mind would eat a cat that belong to the lord of the its just NOT ethical especially the fact it still had its fur on I am suprised he doesnt get hairballs all the time. But it was Sad when Hectors father dies I sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wanted to beat up that Truepin for telling his secret about the gin pipes even after he gave him what he wanted but either way should not have done it
Overall it was absoloutely Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Latham gave The Eyeball Collector 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The TV Time Travellers.

Thomas from Beeston Primary

I think The Eyeball Collector was great beacuse it was building up teasion. The best thing about this book was the middle and the end! The start was ok but you couldn't understand much. I would reamend the age of 9-15. But over all it was fab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would read this again is possible. If you don't like reading books about deaths this isn't the book for you?

As I started to read the book, I couldn't really understand how it was set. I couldn't really get in to it. I thought it didn't have an exciting atmosphere and I

Isla from Morley Newlands Primary School

I thought this book was all right but was really confusing. I just could not get in to it.
I think the author should write books with more humor

Isla gave The Eyeball Collector 2 out of 5.

Joe from Alwoodley Primary

This is an amazing book set around a different time in the past which is a great change of writing. Hector is a really expectational character that is stuck to one thing he wants to do. He loves butterflies and riddles that makes the book really interesting.

F.E Higgins is a fantastic author that would inspire many children from the age of 10 as her style of writing is different I would buy another one of her books!

Joe gave The Eyeball Collector 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Danya from Alwoodley Primary School

I got a bit disappointed when I finished it, & I hope the next 1 I read won't disappointed

Danya gave The Eyeball Collector 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Megan from Alwoodley Primary school

I'm so very sorry and so very disappointed.I just could not get into the book unfortunately. I expected it to be gory but it was not. All my mates agreed it was amazing and absolutely engrossing, I disagreed completely. I didn't really get the story line and i wasn't very interested. I might read more of F.E HIGGINS- if I find any. But I absolutely ADORED the long fancy words that would definitely sharpen up my vocabulary and maybe even mention to one of my teachers. It just isn't my type of book. I am a huge book- worm and will like almost any book. I just didn't get into this one.
Oh well. I certainly didn't like it but tons of other people will just love it, buy it, read it, read it, read it, read it...
Maybe I'll give it another go. Maybe because I didn't understand it I decided I didn't like it.
I WILL TRY AGAIN!

Megan gave The Eyeball Collector 2 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Louise from St Margaret's

I liked this book but it was really confusing, I would like to find out how Hector's Dad dies.I would like to read another book by F.E.Higgins.

The book is very wierd. The seocnd chapter is very confusing. I LIKE THE ENDING THE BEST. It is COOL! My favourite charcter is Truepin EVIL!!!! Three I would say is a good mark but the book wasnt good engouh to get a 4 or 5.

Lily gave The Eyeball Collector 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Story of Matthew Buzzington.

jessica from meanwood c of e primary school

the eye ball collector was my 2 to worst book.it had riddles witch was good but the atual story was confussing because the plot at the start of the story wasn't clear.

jessica gave The Eyeball Collector 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Lala from meanwood c of e primary school

this book was good i like the riddles but they was very hard to do and never got them

jack gave The Eyeball Collector 4 out of 5.

Sian from Beeston Primary

I didn't enjoy this book it was full of death and spite and gore and as I am someone who detests those things I think that the authour either is someone who likes them (I hope not!)or someonewho is trying out a new style to see what the reaction is! The best bit was the riddles they were really clever and I enjoyed making wild guesses!

Sian gave The Eyeball Collector 1 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Ellie from Beeston Primary School

I would of rated this 5 but the 2nd chapter was very confusing and didn't make sense to the 1st and the middle of the book was boring. My faveourite bit was the riddles
because they were really good but the riddle E was confusing. I underdstand way it was called The Eyeball Collecter.

Ellie gave The Eyeball Collector 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The TV Time Travellers.

Hannah from Cookridge Primary School

It looked like my type of book but it wasn't. It was hard to follow. And eyeball collecting. Wasn'nt in it.

Hannah gave The Eyeball Collector 2 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Megan from St Marys cofe primary school Boston Spa

The eyeball collector was the worst story I've ever read because it wasn't actully about eyeball collecting and wasn't what i read on the blurb.Another reson why I personaly did not like the eyeball collector was because when I was reading it ,it didn't catch my eye because it did not make sense when I was reading it so I didn't quite no what I was reading about in some parts of the story.

Megan gave The Eyeball Collector 1 out of 5.

BEN from MEANWOOD C OF E PRIMARY

This book is really good and I liked the riddles and enjoyed trying to work them out(although I never got them!). I recommend this book as it is very good.

BEN gave The Eyeball Collector 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Wolven.

Eleanor from Morley Newlands Primary

This was a good book.
It was abit boring though but i loved the riddles.
Hector is on a mission to have a revenge on the man who killed his father.

Eleanor gave The Eyeball Collector 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Wolven.

Rimpi from Morley Newlands Primary School

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I liked the ideas in the plot (especially the twist in the tale). I wouldn't advise this for the faint-hearted as there are many scenes of gore.

Rimpi gave The Eyeball Collector 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Wolven.

Bethany from Morley Newlands

I just loved this book when I got into it but at the beggining I didn't really understand it. The riddles in this book I thought was really clever and the answers I thought they are so simple. I would reccomend this to 10 and 11 years old and for someone who likes a challenge because it is so long.

Bethany gave The Eyeball Collector 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Paris from Morley Newlands Primary School

A good book but it just was not my favourite. Alot of the book was ok but the problem was the begging was not really good. You sort of get gripped but not alot. The best thing I enjoyed about this book is the part were Hector want revenge on the man who killed his farther.

Some parts were OK but the main problem was that it was so l..... o..... n..... g.....

Paris gave The Eyeball Collector 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The TV Time Travellers.

Zo-po gave The Eyeball Collector 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Story of Matthew Buzzington.

Amy from Pudsey Primrose Hill Primary School

Very good because it was spaced out and surprises you at the end.
Hector is on a mission to have revenge on the man who killed his farther. With mysterys been thrown at you on every chapter, something has to discovered. What will Hector do next now that he is closer to his suspect is what you have to find out.

Amy gave The Eyeball Collector 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Wolven.

Christopher from Pudsey Primrose Hill

The first thing that came to my mind after reading this book was that there was a MASSIVE range of adverbs and adjectives. And the description! Everything said was described in loads of detail. I also like the plot of the book because I thought it would be gory but it wasn't but I would still recommend it to anyone

Christopher gave The Eyeball Collector 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Joanna from Meanwood C of E

I think The Eyeball Collector was great. I loved the way the author described the deceitful Lady Mandible in all her plots and plans. The riddles fitted the book perfectly(though they were admittedly very confusing!).

Joanna gave The Eyeball Collector 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Wolven.

lea from meanwood c of e primary

I thought this book was quite good... I liked the build up and the tension. However I thought the start was a bit boring and slow.I think my fave part was the ending!

lea gave The Eyeball Collector 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Samuel from Ninelands primary school

venancio gave The Eyeball Collector 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Heather from St.Mary's CofE Primary School Boston Spa

Iwould give this book 3/5 because even though I enjoyed it however some parts could be improved or not as much deatile needed as it spoilt the story in some places.

The plot of the story at the start wasn't as clear as it could be however as I got into the book the plot became clearer so I understood what was going on. Also, the tittle didn't fit with the storyline as there was nothing about eyeballs but nearer the end I saw why! It was because it says Hector saw six staring eyeballs that were part of a collection!
I enjoyed all the riddles that Hector had to solve to earn a penny even though he had to give some to Mrs. Fitch as he was moved to her home for exposed babies and abandoned boys in addition to his fathers death. Another part that I very much enjoyed was when Hector left Mrs. Fitch's home for exposed babies and abandoned boys so he could go and live with Lord and Lady Mandible. Hector enjoyed living at Whytipitts Hall even though he found a collection of eyeballs!
The ending was rather sad because Lord Mandible died but Bovrik tries to stop Lady Mandible caring so she slaps him. Hector became Lady Mandible's apprentise!
I would reccomend you to read this book if you like mystery and plenty of riddles!

Heather gave The Eyeball Collector 2 out of 5 and now plans to read The Story of Matthew Buzzington.

It is a great read and soon becomes a favroute. A gripping page turner that involes a boy called hector whos tragic past has left him on the streets of Londen. This a book for mystery and adventure lovers. When Hector is hired by his fathers murder he soon starts to plan his revenge!

Lauren gave The Eyeball Collector 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

niamh from ninelands primary school

i think the eyeball collector was a bit confusing and disapointing. i think the author should add in a bit more action!
also i think that the author should make hector just get gulliver in the middle of the story but then he escapes! because it would make more tention!
this story could be better.

niamh gave The Eyeball Collector 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Alex from ninelands primary school

Alex gave The Eyeball Collector 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Craig from Ninelands Primary

I loved the book and it is the best book I've read so far. I love the way at the end that everyrhing collapses for Hector. If you've read the book I'd think you'd agreed. The hog that entered the dining hall completely came as a shock as well as when Barron Borvik de Vandolin poisoned himself. The French cat eater completely digusted me ina good fasanating way. I suggest that if you havent read this book then you should read it.
