louisa gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 4 out of 5.

Harry from Austhorpe Primary

This book was really funny but not as funny as the Mr Gum books which he also wrote. Some bits were funny e.g when he beats the robbers up and some bits were sad when he was being bullied at the new school.

Harry gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Kiran from Alwoodley Primary school

I loved this book so much! although i hated the way its set out but the word were all right and my younger brother who is seven loved it so I think that it is a good book but maybe it should be targeted for younger readers!

Kiran gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Eyeball Collector.

Zain from Alwoodley Primary School

i would rate this book 4/5 because i absolutely loved the way that the author wrote the book but the thing i was not so keen on was how the writing was set out. my favourite part for the book was when Mathew Buzzington turned into a fly. i expected something different but this was the complete opposite. my favourite charachter was pineapple jhonson because he turned out to be diferent from the inside while on the outside, he is the opposite.

Zain gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 4 out of 5.

Danya from Alwoodley Primary School

When I first saw this book I thought it was a childs book (7-9 year olds)but when I read it O found it quite interesting and very funny my favourite chapter was chapter 2 Off to the big city! my favourite character is Amanda when she turns into an elephant and all she said was elephant.

Jordan gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 5 out of 5.

it was funny when the elephant sister sat on the robbers but why would you want to turn into a fly?

jade gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 2 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Harrison from Pudsey Primrose Hill Primary school

I think this book is random and i think it is funny how he grows pineapples to throw at peoples face.I like it when his little sister turned into a elephant.I really liked this book.

Harrison gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 4 out of 5.

Sam from Woodlesford Primary School

I don't think this book should be in the age span of 9 to 11 year olds. The first chapter repeats Matthew Buzzington too many times and it doesn't interest me. The story is too rushed, especially at the peak of the story! The language used is just too simple, no interesting vocabulary and doesn't challenge you. The story doesn't excactly lure me in and make me want to read on and it doesn't fire my imagination at all. Overall, I think this book is not exciting and is boring and dull, which is why I gave it the poor score of one out of five.

Sam gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 1 out of 5 and now plans to read The Eyeball Collector.

NANCY from Alwoodley Primary School

THIS BOOK IS SO RANDOM I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
IT ISNT VERY REAL TO LIFE BUT ITS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS.I AM OBSESSED WITH ANDY STANTON I HAVE EVERY MR GUM THERE IS.I LOVE IT!!

NANCY gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 5 out of 5.

Megan from Alwoodley Primary School

I can honest say that this book was great despite it being so very short. It took me like half an hour to read it! It was really random- like me! I adored adored ADORED A D O R E D this book!!

Megan gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 4 out of 5.

JAMIE-LEE from BEESTON PRIMARY

ITS VERY BORING AND THE ONLY GOOD BIT IS WHERE AMANDA TURNS INTO AN ELEPHANT AND CRUSHES THE ROBBER.

JAMIE-LEE gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 2 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Ellie from Beeston Primary

The only good bit in this book was when that elphant sat on the robber and killed him. But the rest of it was rubbish.

Ellie gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 2 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

beth from woodlesford primary school

I did not find this book interesting, I feel that it should have been aimed at 8 year olds as I found it was VERY repetative. Also it could have had better vocabulary instead of said ,it only took me 15 to 20 minutes to finsh it it was to short but very out there. It was not to my tastes but others will enjoy it more...

beth gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Stephanie from Woodlesford Primary School

I think it was too short and simple for me. It should probably go to people around the age of 7 because I
think they would enjoy it more. Also it has no good vocabulary e.g it always says 'said'so this book wouldn't really help anyone from the age of 9-11.
It took me around 20-30 minutes to read the book and I prefer longer books.
A gold fish has a memory of 3 seconds and even a gold fish would be able to remember Matthew Buzzington's name because it is repeated that many times.

Stephanie gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 2 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Jiz from meanwood c of e primary

This was a good book but the plot was a bit too simple.

Jiz gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Shannon from Woodlesford Primary School

I din't like this book at all because it was to short and i prefer long books. Plus it is a bit stupid because everyone knows it is impossible to turn into a fly and the book is abit babyish , it doesn't have any long words.

Shannon gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 2 out of 5 and now plans to read The Eyeball Collector.

Joe from Alwoodley Primary

I did not realy enjoy this book as it was a too simple read with words like said instead of a lot better vocabulary.
I read this book in the space of 30 miutes but I like longer books.
This book would have been quite Ideal for late 7 year olds as I think they would enjoy this the most.

I am aware that Andy Stanton has also written the expectational award winning Mr Gumm seiries but those are the books I see the most inspiring to the children under my age.

Joe gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 1 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Robert from Ninelands Primary

It was quite unrealistic and no storyline.

Robert gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 1 out of 5.

Eriin from Crossley street primary school

This book was ok but it was really easy to read it took me about 10 minutes to read it.If i really like a book i can't put the book down but i could put this book down straight away. I couldn't get lost in the book but it was a good idea for a story.

Eriin gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Eyeball Collector.

Sian from Beeston Primary

This was a good book,it was very short and this disapointed me because I just wanted to carry on reading,it had a good bit of homour in it and was extremley RANDOM!

Sian gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

ellie from greenhill primary school

It was really funny I couldn't stop laughing!

ellie gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Megan from Alwoodley Primary School

I loved this book, it was very short but very humourous and extrmely RANDOM. I loved it and read it in less than one hour which disappointed me as I had less hours than usual for this book to keep me entertained. I only gave it four out five because it was so short and my favourite character was definately Pineapple because of how tough he seems but then when the lights are out he shows his weakness. I was very happy for Matthew when he actually turned into a fly and trembled when he was going to get squished the first AND the second time- I'm so glad he DIDN'T get squashed!!
I have read Andy Stanton's Mr Gum books which are hilarious so I wasn't surprised when I found myself in fits of giggles! I LOVED it.

I really enjoyed this book! i love Pinapple Jonson when he is in the dark and he wants him mummy! Amanda is very cute because she only says elephant and she saves the day. Also the burgulars are very greatly illastrated and named. Its very good because he thinks he is a fly but when he tries to turn into the fly things don't go as planned! DHILAN gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

jack from st margaret's c of e school

I didn't like it at all.I thought it was far too short and there wasn't much writing
in it. I felt the style Andy used was more like a book for younger children rather than
9-11 children. But I would recommend it to younger children. I think younger children would find it funny.

jack gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 1 out of 5 and now plans to read The TV Time Travellers.

Maria gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 5 out of 5.

Libbie from Austhorpe Primary School

This book was not my type. The book, for me, didn`t have a recogniseable story line. It was extreamly repetitive, especially at the begining. If you read this you may agree. Sorry but I don`t plan to vote for this book.

Harrison gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Georgia from St Margarets

laura from crossley street primary school

I think that the book made you want to read on because Mathew kept on trying to turn in to a fly but he failed .
At the end there's a bit of a twist to it so it made it get even better.

very funny but the story was a bit predictable

jake gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 4 out of 5.

Zo-Po from Meanwood CofE Primary

I thought this book was really funny especially when his little sister can only say the word 'Elephant'. It was a bit too baby-ish for 9-11 yrs. It didn't have much tension and the exitment went pretty quickly. I would recommend this book, but foryounger and begginer readers.

Zo-Po gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Ethan from Pudsey Primrose Hill

I thought this book was funny and I couldn't understand why others didnt like it until the end, where it got a bit stupid. This book was funny but had a stupid, daft, idiotic ending wich ruined the book.

Alice from Meanwood c of e primary

A little predictable yet a funny and very unusual tale containing flies, pineapples and mabye even an elephant, making it a very funny read, but it is quite short.

Kayleigh from Cookridge Primary

I disliked the fact the book was very short I like to read big long books. I liked how Matthew finally became a fly and defeated the robbers and how he and pineapple Jhonson made friends and everything was happily ever after. The funniest part was when Amanda turned into a elephant. It scared me a bit the dream with pineapple Jhonson threw a pineapple at Matthew's head and Matthew had to go to hospital.

Kayleigh gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Bodyswap: The Boy who was 84.

Ella from Cookridge Primary school

The story of Mathew Buzzington was really good but it was a bit too short and a bit too easy for my age.I just wish it was longer, loved his little sister amanda who can only say elephant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Niamh gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Mondays are Murder.

Christopher from Pudsey Primrose Hill

I found this book a little bit random as there are flying pineapples and little girls turning into elephants and boys turning into flys but thats Andy Stanton for you, always a bit weird! I also found the book lacked description and therewas a lot of repetition as it always addressed Mathew as Mathew as Mathew Buzzington instead of just Mathew which was a bad point of the story.

Christopher gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 1 out of 5 and now plans to read The Eyeball Collector.

Abigail from Pudsey primrose hill primary School

I think this book is very random how a pinapple can grow on tarmac and a boy can turn into a fly and a little girl can turn into a elaphant,I think it should be for children aged 5-7.

Abigail gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 1 out of 5 and now plans to read The Eyeball Collector.

Samuel from Ninelands

This book started out a bit dissapointiong because the beggining told us that he couldn't do it ...but the end was action packed ,funny and very exciting, with lots tension, making me wonder what would happen!Overall I would reccommend it for a great book to read!

Samuel gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Eyeball Collector.

max from ninelands primary school

This book was disapointing as it was so short i realy think it is apropriate for the age 6-7. It realy wasn't descriptive in how it described anyone or anything the only thing to rely on were the illastrations,I think that the author should of described Amanda as her powers were suprising, and how did mathew buzzington no that he could turn into a fly had he ever turned into a fly? And a note to the author, pineaples grow off trees, and they can't grow in a day, and four year olds can say more than elephant. What i did like about this story was that it was very original and random.

max gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 1 out of 5 and now plans to read The TV Time Travellers.

Owen from Greenhill Primay School, Leeds

This is an enjoyable and funny read. It tells the story of Matthew Buzzington containing characters: Amanda (Matthew’s sister who can only say elephant), Pineapple Johnson (A bully who makes fun of Matthew.), His Mum and Dad. Mathew has to move to the big city and he doesn’t want to. He has to go to a new school, meet new friends and live in a house near a busy road. I recommend this book to people who like to read comedy.

Owen gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Wolven.

Lucy from Ninelands primary school

rosie gave The Story of Matthew Buzzington 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The TV Time Travellers.

Kristy from Pudsey Primrose Hill Primary School

The characters in the book were quite weird and wonderful. I thought that this book was ok but it only caught my attention once when big robber and little robber smashed the window and matthew didn't know what had happened. When the robbers were talking about medium robber it made me laugh. The story line of Matthews little sister was funny I was wanting to know why she could only say "Elephant" and I thought that it was a good way to end the story.

This book was OK although it had poor discription as you only knew what it looked like because of the pictures. The only thing that kept me going was that the story line was good but it didn't discribe anything enough for you to understand enough about the book. It waffled quite abit at the begining about his name being Micheal Buzzington. The characters where weird and made me laugh. It could of been a bit longer as it only took half an hour to read and an hour to work out.

I thought 'the story of Matthew Buzzington was poor. The storyline was clever and very original, but there was a limited amount of description about all the key aspects eg. What was Matthew's changeover like? What were the places called? What did the people look like? (NOT counting illustrations!) etc.

Another thing I didn't like about the story was the amount of research that must have been used. Unlike 'Amanda' no four year old would only be able to say one word unless they had learning difficulies, in which case this should have been explained. Also, pineapples grow on trees, not straight out of the ground, and a pineapple tree takes ages to grow, so 'Pineapple Johnson's' method of torchure is IMPOSSIBLE!

I think the blurb is a bit too revealing, as it immedieately explaines most of the story, rather than just a taster. It would be better if, instead of 'Matthew Buzzington can turn into a fly' it should have mentioned a superpower, with a few hints about what it was, and the fact that Matthew could turn into fly could 'come out' when he is under pressure from 'Pineapple Johnson' in the playground.

I think that, although he might try hard, 'Pineapple Johnson' would not have become kind imminently, and would have needed help from his new friends 'Amanda' and 'Matthew Buzzington', in which case, it would have added more to the story if that was mentioned.

I think that, to make the book more inviting, the paragraphs should have been more lengthy and less 'static' as though the 'audience' was 9-11, not 4-6!

I think that, if rewritten a little bit differently, 'the story of matthew buzzington could go very far, but as it is, I am not very impressed.
