Liam from Temple Moor High School

The start of this book got me a bit confused because you want to know who the person is and what he is doing. From the start of the book I got my hopes up that I would like the book. Sadly I thought that the book wasn’t that great. I like the story behind the writing but it is the style of writing that made me go off the book. I know a lot of people who thought this book was good but it just didn’t take to my liking.

Liam gave The Glittering Eye 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Blood Hunters.

Charlotte from Temple moor high school science collage

This book was a great read however at times it was confusing! I found that the plot was very detailed and well written however there are still many mysteries to be uncovered!
It was great what happened to the shabati, however I really want to know what happens to Master Hob

Charlotte gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5.

mohammed from allerton grange

I really enjoyed "The Glittering Eye" because it had a mysterious and intriguing plot. However, I thought the characters were pretty limited and I thought Amy's "secret" didn't really make the book any better or make sense with the plot. I thought it was really good because it made you wonder and left you clues, but it was a bit confusing because you couldn't really work out what was real and what wasn't. I loved the Egyptian stuff, although some of it was a bit confusing because you weren't sure what was true and what was made up. I didn't really understand the bit with the monsters, but overall I thought it was a really interesting and exciting book

I think this book is great for everyone in this age group. It's a wonderfully unique story with great characters. This book is definitely the one for readers who love a mystery and will have them digging for more!

Sojourner-Truth gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Blood Hunters.

Elisabeth from Prince Henry's Grammar School

It had a really good storyline although I found it quite confusing at times. I liked the way it was set in the same place with different characters. Also there were different mysteries which you wanted to read on to find out about.

Elisabeth gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.

Stephen from Temple Moor High School

I thought this book was okay,a good story but not a page turner.

Stephen gave The Glittering Eye 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Blood Hunters.

Sarah from Temple Moor High School

I thought that glittering eye was brilliant as it had an interesting plot. The way the stories fit together is ace and when it is set in the other world it is good but a bit odd. I would not give it a good review however as it is very predictable how everything happened.

Sarah gave The Glittering Eye 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.

Alicia from Benton Park

I didn't like this book as i thought it was very boring due to what I had previously but even if I didn't read any books before i would still say it was very boring. I persoanlly do not recomend it to win in the awards.

Alicia gave The Glittering Eye 1 out of 5 and now plans to read Blood Hunters.

Danny from Benton

The Glittering Eye .Well what can i say...It was good enough for me to carry on reading but not a page turner.Personaly i only enjoyed the ending.Afterall it seemed and sounded girlish.

Danny gave The Glittering Eye 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.

Jakub from Pudsey Grangefield

The name of this book is slightly misleading for it does not shine with strong skill unlike previous books I have encountered. One of the first things that come to my notice is the strength that this particular writer applies to putting ideas into your mind, it has sometimes had points repeated. After you have read the book you will be more knowledgable about Egyptians than before. In conclusion I give this book 2 out of 5

Jakub gave The Glittering Eye 2 out of 5.

Carrie from Allerton Grange High School

I found this book confusing, the plot jumped a lot and it was hard to get into, though i really liked the theme, and it had a good ending with the judgement and world of the dead.

I found this book hard to get through. The ending was okay but i still found it strenuous. Th way the plots twisted also slightly confused me.
So for this reason i only gave it 2 out of 5.

This book was really good even though it could be a litle confusing at times :P
I didnt't find it confusing because of it jumping from past to future....

Sana from Boston Spa

The glitterine eye is my second favourite book. I dont find it boring even at one single chapter, it mostly action all the way throught. My favourie character is Amy because i really feel sympathetic for her especially when she is in the undergroung tombs by herself, but also because i have found a big similarity beetween me and her. that big similarity is we booth get weepy at the sight of blood. I can really picture myself saying doing the thing she say's and does.i found it really easy to get into and i think the story flows intrestingly all the way through. its a scary and spooky atmosphere most of the time in the glittering eye, which makes you want to keep reading on. I liked how the dates in the book kept changing. i really enjoyed studying the egyption history, as i studied the egyption history i found it easy to understand objects and events in the book. IT'S A GREAT BOOK!

Sana gave The Glittering Eye 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Life, Interrupted.

This book was really hard to get into. I spent weeks trying to read it before I finished it. Some parts of it, I think, were boring and tiring. I don't think it will win, AT ALL.

thea from allerton high school

this book i found to be rather jumpy and unpredictable - not in a good way. after reading l.j.adlington's other books which were outstanding, this book was a disapoinment. it also was hard to get into and i started reading it but could put it down really easily, which is a rarity for me as i read almost non-stop! this book was, sadly, not even nearly the best.

the endless describing also bored me, as i would have prefered the describing to link in to something, which it didn't. the characters also seemed a tinsy bit stereo-typical: amy, the moody teenager dealing with something hard; shabti, confused and when he finds out what he'd done he was appaled at himself; amy's dad, oblivious to anything that didn't involve the tombs - i could go through all the boring characters.

for the reasons i've listed, i have given this book a 2/5 because though isn't the worst book i've read, i've read alot of better ones, and am not sure this one should go up for a book award.

thea gave The Glittering Eye 2 out of 5.

Jack from Temple Moor High School and science collage

A good book with an intriguing plot, plenty of twists that only just hang on the edge of being unrealistic giving it a good balance. It was well thought out in the way that is combines history with magic and bits of Egyptian myth, creating a fantasy novel that teaches you a bit about modern and ancient Egypt. I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much from this book by its cover but i found it quite interesting.Closer to the end when the stories meet through time it seemed a bit unreal but still i enjoyed it. unlike some of the other reviews i thought it wasn't that flicky between story lines compared to some of the other books. It was quite an easy read as the stories swapped rather than flicked each chapter and I'm not sure but i think one story line was in a slightly different font. Over all I liked it.

Jack gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.

Sophia from St. Mary's Menston

I am giving it a 4 because i found it hard to get into at the beggining. It doesn't look very good, when you look at the book, but don't judge a book by it's cover. I found it very intersting and unexpected. I would read it again.

Sophia gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5.

Rachael from Pudsey Grangefield High

This book was amazing! I liked how the chapters alternated the views of two people. This captivating book is filled with magic and amazing discoveries. The two people that were telling the story, Shabti and Amy, their stories finally came together towards the end. I liked how the authour gave you clues at how the two people's stories were connected. It's a very complex book but a very good read. I would recommend it to anyone. Also it can be bit confusing at times but I loved the book anyway.

I found the story a bit hard at first but after about 4 chapters, I soon knew what was happening. It took me longer to understand Shabti's story, but I understood Amy's straight away. When the two stories linked together, I didn't want to put it down. I was so into it.

I have read 5 books now and I don't have a favorite book. Blood Hunters and Malice were the easiest to get into. I think it is between them two. Running On The Cracks took a while to get into. Life Interuppted and this book, The Glittering Eye were hard to read at first but after a few chapters, I soon got into it.

Overall, I loved the book. It had a very captivating storyline.

It was ok but it took a while to get into it. I only really started to enjoy it when I found out Lady Anhai was a ghost and when Shabti was bein judged really.

Natasha from Boston spa high school

I found the Glittering eye hard to get into as some parts were quite boring and hard to understand. I didnt manage to finish it however i got to page 100. I think one of the reasons why i didn't like it was that it was based in egypt and i never really liked that topic so i found it not my type of book. On the other hand the book was good because it was completely different as there were two stories that i think got closer together as the book progressed. Another point is that the explanation was quite good but sometimes in the part of amys bit it went of topic a few times.

The words in the book could when describing be really complecated and i had to look them up a lot, I thought that maybe it could have had less complecated language so i could understand. I liked the character of shabiti more than amy even though i could relate to Amy more because there was more emotion in the chapters with him in because he was obviously in an awful situation. In shabitis chapters i found that it was very mysterious and so some degree i liked it hovever it was in some parts it was too mysterious. In amys part there were too many characters so it got a bit boring and also there were many scenes to get used to. I gave this book 2/5 because of the reasons above.

Natasha gave The Glittering Eye 2 out of 5 and now plans to read Life, Interrupted.

Abigail from Benton

This book is amazing I like how it tells two stories in one but at the end the two stories meet.My mum had to tell me three times to go to sleep one night .It was soooo fasanating I couldn't put it down.Wherever I went the book went untill I finished it.

Abigail gave The Glittering Eye 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.

Isobel from St Marys Menston

An amazing book, i loved it. at first it was a bit difficult to get into but throughout i really started to enjoy it and get into all the action. Exciting and Exhilerating and a great read, most definetly my type of book. Despite the quite girly front cover i recommend this book for all girls and boys and i hope you all enjoy reading it as much as i did !

Isobel gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.

Frances from Pudsey Grangefield school

I thought the beginning was hard to understand and if you read it slowly you could forget what was happening to one person by the time you got back to them because of the alterate character changes. I thought amy's story was better until the boy's story got more intresting. I liked it how L.J Adlington gave clues which linked the stories togeather. There were other confusing parts thoughout the book but i thought that i really got into it. When the two stories came togeather i was hooked and i couldn't put the book down. Finally i thought that the descriptions were good but not overwelming so it still left rooom for the imaganation.

I have read 3 books now and i thought they were all great and i don't think i could pick a favriot. But blood hunters was the easiest to get into at the start but life interrupted and the glittering eye were hard at the start but easy to get into after the 4th chapter.

With this book it toke me till chapter 5 to understand what was happening in the boys story but i understood the girls one stright away.

Over all i loved this book and would strongly recommend it.

Frances gave The Glittering Eye 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.

Darren from Boston Spa SChool

This book has some good points but fails to please in quite a lot. The whole polt regarding Amy never really got into a poistion in which it worked because the various characters never seemed to extend much further then they're roles. They were pretty bland and I felt no emotion towards any of them throughout this book. The plot grew importance with the arceological dig but this still did not impress with a variety of corny, unrealistic twists. Amy is a bit of an annoying character, she doesn't make sense and the largest twist does ntohing except make my wonder why it became a key subject in the book. The book is about Ancient Egypt so why involve an English schoolgirl with a secret? It doesn't work and just gives me more reason to criticise this well thought out novel. The Shabti plot is difficult to get into to but I eventually did and much preferred it to the Amy plot but it still wasn't amazing. The characters are alright but at the end of reading the book, I still understand nothing about Shabti, I have no idea if this was intentional but it wasn't very good. The variety of things made no sense and left little or no explanation. The ending was alright if a bit bleak but the whole thing worked well in the context of the novel. It wasn't quite explained about it but it was nicely done even if I didn't understand. The histoircal part of this novewl was the definate highlight being both correct and interesting, but this part of the novel is too full of action and other things which spoil the historical section of this book.
All in all, two badly placed plots had good sides but never expanded into somehting amazing and the merging of the stories at the end didn't really help it. So, I aren't giving it a high score.

Darren gave The Glittering Eye 1 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.

Neha from Pudsey Grangefield

I think the book was a little bit complicated at the beginning of the book but at the end of the book it made more sense and it was more better and clearer. That is why i have gave it a 4 out of 5 stars!

The Glittering Eye
I have recently been reading the glittering eye by L.J Adlington. I have enjoyed the book, however I did find the character jumping was a bit annoying. The chapters are always left on a cliff hanger and when you return to them you seem to have missed a bit. As I said the book was a page turner it always left you wanting more! The two stories are so different. The book starts with the hob, at the very beginning it’s him trying to run away from his master but he is soon found but he doesn’t remember anything of his life before he ran away, this make you very curious! In the second chapter then goes to a girl called Amy whose father is an archaeologist working in Egypt to try to uncover what happened in Egypt. When Amy discovers something that turns her whole life upside down!!

Ellen from Boston Spa

I think the glittering eye book an impossible book to get into. I only managed to get around halfway before I gave up trying to get into it and stopped reading it. I did enter the book with a negative attitude because my friends had all read it and told me it wasn't very good. This book is very mysterious. There is a certain amount of mystetiousness that I can bear and in this book it was to much. Some people find this great and it makes you want to read on and normally with me it does too so I tried reading on but nothing happened, atleast not in what I read so I stopped reading it. I liked the character of Amy because I found her easier to understand as she is living like now where as Shabti was living in ancient egyptian times and it was hard to follow why things happened the way they did. I didn't really understand who Shabti was. Overall I really didn't like this book and didn't manage to finish it.

Ellen gave The Glittering Eye 1 out of 5.

Lisa from David Young Community Academy

This is a book about things that happened in the past in Egypt that,
has been transfered into the future of a archaeologist team who are trying to
find out more about the past.

Shaniece from Allerton Grange High School

I really liked this book because of the fact that it wa set up in egypt- i am really interested in Egyptology. the way that it skipped between Shabti and Amy was very effective, and when they meet up at the end, ironicly to die, it was very addictive. i liked the way that the creaturesof dust in Shabti's world reminded me of having a dream where the main points and what you need to focus on dance, shouting "her i am!", on the edge of your vision, but when you look they dance away. but, on the other hand it was quite confusing, and i dont think i would read it again, so i gave it 4/5

Shaniece gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.

Jasmine from Boston Spa School

The Glittering Eye was a very good historical novel. Firstly I thought the plot of the book was good it was very interesting and gave you fascinating insight into a lot of aspects of the Ancient Egyptians. There is a good link between past and present and during the book a cross over between the two that gives the book another dimension and is certainly different. Alternate chapters follow the stories of Amy, who arrives in Egypt to accompany her archaeologist father, and Shabti whose story is from another time in Egyptian history altogether. Through the two sides of the book, finding history and being history you are taken on a fantastic journey, involving lots of mystery (and some tricky and dangerous moments). Along the way you learn much about Egypt and Egyptology which if you are already interested in it will give you great imagery and thoughts. With Shabiti there is great mystery about his past and you feel on the same level as him because he is starting a fresh but along the way memories are unlocked and he begins to remember the awful truth. Amy’s story is quite powerful because she is trying to forget what has happened but you gradually get an idea of what has happened to her because memories start to slip through. These two characters are a complete contrast of each of but very similar at the same time one is hiding from the past and the other is trying to find it. In this book you can really sense what is a fictional story around the facts which gives you a good insight into what life used to be like and elaborates on this creating a world of its own. This also lets you use your imagination and try to fill in gaps and meanings yourself. Overall it is a very good book with quite a basic plot that uses lots of detail and descriptive writing that it makes you feel there no matter how unreal. It also makes you feel involved because includes things that you read about in books and lets you in on the, as if it was happening in front of you. This really makes the book come alive but you still know the line between imagination and reality no matter how vivid. This is a great book to read with good historical ties and great characters.

i liked the glittering eye because it has a great story line and once i got into it i found that i could not put it down. i liked the way that the author writes about to different people who lead two different lives and only meet because of this women. i gave it 3 out of 5 as i thought it was a great book and the author could write another but it did get a bit boring in the middle.

James from Allerton High School

This is a very intresting book, it includes some true facts about Egypt. This book has a real setting and a fantasy setting. This book is written about Egyptian Gods which get mixed with other gods this, book sorts them out. At the end where Amy is going through the gates helping Shabiti to get through to his resting place. The book keeps you intrested by only giving little clues and not telling you in full till the end. Overall this is a very good book with no let downs, so I give it a five. This is my last book and I'd just like to say all of the books are good and thanks to my libarian (Mrs Walker) for sorting the books out!

James gave The Glittering Eye 5 out of 5.

CHloe from Parklands

The plot of this book is like two pieces of thread that, at first, don't seem to be connected, but as the book procedes, you find that they're begining to weave together. Finally, in the last few chapters, they mold together. Its about a girl who goes to Egypt and a boy from the past who doesn't seem to no anything. Although they don't seem similar, they combine with one another perfectly.

CHloe gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.

Jodie from Rodillian High School

This book was really good but the begining was hard to get into. The storyline was great but it was confusing at times. Overall I think this book was really good.I think i would probably read this book again. I really liked the character Shabti because he was really interesting.

Jodie gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.

Gheorghe from Boston Spa School

It was certainly an interesting book to read. I thought the story's plot was quite confusing at times, but by the end I'd unraveled it's complexity, and had gotten the gist of the general storyline. That's not to say that it's not a good book, however - it's really quite enjoyable.

Gheorghe gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5.

Joyce from Allerton Grange High School

I think it was quite good to read and fun.
But it was quite confusing at the beginning, because it was seperated as 2 stories.
But as I read through until the end, it got better and better!
It was a good book.
But in a way I wouldn't want to read it again.

Joyce gave The Glittering Eye 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Blood Hunters.

Anna from Boston Spa School

I think The Glittering Eye is a really great book because I loved the idea of 2 peoples lives, at the same place but at different times.
The Glittering Eye is about a girl called Amy and a boy who has forgotten his name. Amy is in the present time and the boy is in the past. They are brought together by the life of a lady called Anhai who is separated from her body!
This book has lots of good points: the storyline is has great details and I love reading about the 2 different lives. I liked the idea of them meeting because of Lady Anhai but was a little confused!
I think that even though I loved the book the storyline could have a few improvements: when Amy and the boy met I was confused as to what happened after the gods had weighed the boys heart and I think that in the boys part of the story, I lost a bit of interest and I think the story needed to get moving again!
Overall though, I think its a great book and I hope the writer considers making a second to follow!

Anna gave The Glittering Eye 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Life, Interrupted.

Beth from Boston Spa

I liked this book quite a lot as it encompassed quite a few different themes quite subtly. It is really well written and every time you think you've worked it out, something else happens. The two different stories both come together in really clever ways, too. You should definately read this!

Beth gave The Glittering Eye 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.

Brilliant, the way it was writen was enlightening. I also enjoyed the facts about eygpt.

I loved this book and the way the stories from two seperate time linked in to each other at the end. The storie also taught me a bit about the Ancient Egyptions as well!

Belinda gave The Glittering Eye 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.

Hannah from Boston Spa School

I quite liked the glittering eye, but it was a little bit confusing at times. It is two stories told by different people at different times. One story is tld by Amy- a rebbellios teenager, and the other story is told by Shabti from ancient Egpt.

Hannah gave The Glittering Eye 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.
