Tonicha from Morley High School
This book was amazing. I had been told by other members of my readers' group that it was great, but it really exceeded my expectations. The plot and storyline were really well-developed, and I don't say this about many books, but it made me cry! This ranks it amongst books like Goodnight Mister Tom (Michelle Magorian).
I really got to know the characters throughout the book, and could not actually put it down. The story was really touching, and the idea was carried off really well - it was done with sensitivity, and was not written with a lack of compassion for people that have been through this kind of situation.
I think this book is something we should all read - forget the horror, the futuristic and the fantasy, this is a down-to-earth book that, although fiction, is incredibly close to real-life, and sheds light on issues that affect lots of people every day.
Tonicha gave Life, Interrupted 5 out of 5.

This started off as a good book, at first I was interested however sadly the book deteriorated after the first couple of chapters! This was disappointing as it had the making of a good book!

An amazing book that was really good. I felt that i could relate to the boy because it was over a very common topic. It was a sad book and i almost cryed at one part of the book. It was also different because it was from a boys perpective instead of a girls. the bad thing about this book was that there are lots of books about this topic and i dont think there was anything really special about this book compared to the other books i have read on this topic. i gave it a 4/5 because overall it was a great book that i would recommend to people who like sad books

This was such a heart warming story. The characters in the book are realistic and show different ways in which people deal with cancer. It also gives a good understanding of how hard it is living with someone who has cancer and what they go through. The emotions and feelings of the characters are shown well, and also portrays the confusion and uncertainty that comes with the condition. It also makes you feel grateful for what you have because it can be taken from you at any time and turn your whole life upside down. Many im sure can realate to a book like this because it is such a widely spread illness.I really liked this book and would recommend it to everyone its a very emotional book but very true.

LIFE, INTERUPTED
A good book but it wasn't really my type. The book was very interesting and also I found it slightly depressing but still it was well written because it reminded us how fragile life is and how fast it can be torn apart. Also how people react and deal with problems in different ways. But I didn’t find it much of a page turner. I like how the writer has made it seem so real because most of the bits in it reminded me of my own life and how it could easily swerve into the same direction as this books storyline.

Life Interrupted
I enjoyed the beginning of this book and I think that I expected just a little too much. This book didn’t do a very good job of pulling me in. This book is a typical life story and I think that is why I did not enjoy it as much as some others will.

I stopped reading this after 50 pages because it isnt my kind of book because i prefer suspician and action, it was a bit to soppy.

I thought Life was a predictable book. It had characters that were realistic and the book showed that boys have the same problems as girls at home. That is why I gave it a low score.

This one was just like the book The Glittering eye.It just wasn't a page turner unlike Malice.

I loved the book more than the others but if it was that little bit better then i would definetly vote for it to be the winner of the Leeds Book Awards.

Jakub from Pudsey Grangefield
Life interrupted is a unique book about a teenagers life when his mother gets ill and faints at work. She soon gets help being a nurse but a dilemma is quickly spotted, who will look after her two sons? Although this problem is quickly answered this just brings more discomfort and difficulties to the siblings. So on this book goes, it may sound boring but as any writer can there are things that make this book more more intriguing. The book has a happy ending and this may fool you that this book is not too good and not too bad. I give it an above average 3 out of 5
Jakub gave Life, Interrupted 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Glittering Eye.

Although this book has a sad theme it has some classic (and extremely quotable)comedic moments. I was crying one minute and laughing my head off the next! I really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed reading this book!!!! It was a really heartfelt story and i could relate to it as people i know have and have had cancer and i can understand the worry. It was written in a way that meant you could really feel for the characters.
The swearing was a let down though as it isn't that suitable for the younger end of this catagory. over all though i loved the swing in emotions from sad and serious to light and funny in just the space of a couple of chapters.
Isobel gave Life, Interrupted 4 out of 5.
Neha from Pudsey Grangefield
This book is amzaing but very sad at times and then it is funny again. I really enjoyed most of book because in some parts it was upsetting and serious and cool but also there is alot of swearing that why I gave it 4 starts other wise I would give it 5 stars! I hope the author would not have any sweraing in it's next book. My favourite character was Freya she was funny and nice she was a good freind to have. I would recommened to my all friends and other people because it is such a good book. All the characters were unqiue, adventrous and fabulous. Actually I would really give it 4 and a half stars because this book is awesome.

I really enjoyed the book, byt i would recomend you take the swearing out you now, just in case anyone younger than the recomended ageso they don't go saying it to there parents. I thought that you planned it out really well. The best part was when the Jesse got hit by the ball in the head because i found it really funny. If you do any other books i willl most defently read them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Abbie from Pudsey Grangefield High School
I absolutely adored this book. It was so emotional! One second I felt like crying and the next I felt like laughing! The secrets in the book made me feel like I wanted to read and read so that I could find out what they were! I never wanted it to end but I knew it had to. This has to be one of my fave books. The only bad thing about this book is that usually cancer gets worse gradually, but in this book she colapses and becomes ill all in one go. And at times there were too many things going on at once. But that doesn't detract from all the good things in it. It made me think of real life and how these things really happen in real life as well as in luke's case. I would absolutely recommend "Life Interrupted" to all of my friends because it is such a good book!
Abbie gave Life, Interrupted 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.

I exceptionally enjoyed Life, Interrupted. I thought it was very well thought out, and was much like a real-life scenario, which I thought was a good feature of the book.
I thought that the characters were well described, and I understand about how boys can get caught up in things like football. It is a very realistic book, and the style is perfect. That is why I give Life, Interrupted 5 out of 5.

Rachael from Pudsey Grangefield High
This book was brilliant! It's a heart-wrenching book about family, friends, and football. It was funny in places but it was also searingly sad at times. I cried at it and I know it made others cry too. I would recommend this book to amyone. That is if they want a real life story because this book is just about some children's lives what get interuppted. It's a great book and it is different to all of the other books in the Leeds Book Awards. That is what makes it so unique. The story was a bit weird at times but it made sense before the story ended. I also think that this book is the most emotional in the category. It was a very good read.

I thought that this book was really good and it was searingly sad at times. It's a heart-wrenching book that may bring tears to your eyes. It's about family, friends and football. I would recommend it to anyone. This book is writtten in a different genre to the rest of the books which makes this book even more unique. Even though it is different to the other books that I have read, I still enjoyed it. A very good read. The Leeds Book Awards haven't disappointed me yet, even thought that this book might disappoint me. But, it didn't and once I got into it (which only took a few chapters) I didn't want to put it down and I found that it was well written. it is filled with humour, drama and a bit of SADNESS. It brought a tear to my eye and I certainly hope that it will do that for others. Anyway 5 out of 5. It was brilliant! :D

Darren from Boston Spa School
This book was for me the most emotional book in this catergory, but it doesn't save it. The beginning was not very inspirational, the whole fact that his mother has cancer is good but totally unrealistic how it occurs. How come she never told them before? How come she suddely collapses from it and then gets extremely ill? If she had cancer, wouldn't she know that it'd happen sooner or later, but instead telling the older child she waits? why? I can see why it could happen but it isn't used here as a device to be realistic but instead to give a surprise. I sound really nasty saying this but I do think it may have been better to give a bit of realism to his novel. I found many scenes a bit strange but halfway through the book I genuinely felt like crying. The characters reacted nicely and this provided a great middle section of the novel. The funeral scene was too large and had too many things happening. Then, suddenly all the previous sub-plots become plot A and ruin a perfectly good novel. The uncle hides a secret but it's not a big deal. (You'll understand what I mean when you read it). There was no point including it because it totally failed to make a point. It doesn't make people think or change their views, it doesn't even make sense in this book. It may have been better if this had less of a grip of proceeding but it didn't get that much because of the even worse football storyline. Why was it in the novel? It did nothing apart from annoy me, when he succeeds I didn't cheer, I just thought it was a bad way to give some happiness to this novel.
In so ways, this is excellant but the emotional part is the by far the best but surrounded by so many plots, basically this book had too much to say but coudln't say it.

It's brilliant this book!I loved it because it had a great story line with the cancer and how the two boys coped. I thought that the book had amazing way in keeping secrets and making you want to read to the end of the book and find out the what they are. I liked the book and I would recommend this book to people who have gone through the same problem as it could help them with it.

A definate 5 stars for this one! A touching storey about a boy and his brother having to cope with an ill mum. They have to endure a bad baby sitter, a ill mum and an uncle with a seacret. Together they take each thing well. I would recomend it to any teenager with problems like these.

It was brilliant with all the crisis and sadness I especcially liked the way the kids in the book were not aware their mum had collapsed until they went to the hospital. It let me down a but with all the gloomyness but it still had ok comedy.

Shaniece from Allerton Grange High School
I liked this book, because the author portrayed the emotion of how you feel when your mother dies perfectly. dream-like. unreal. floating. as if in a dream you think, maybe if i do something like call someone, or go with my instincts, this muted bubble will pop and it'll all be real again. i know this because my mum died march 16 2009. it doesn't make you feel angry, but rather like you have too get over it, or it will eat you from the inside out. it won't let you survive. you HAVE to let go. this book captures it perfectly. and at the end, when jesse(luke, the main character's younger brother) helps his team win the football match, and they go to the pizza restaraunt, then decide to call luke and jesse's dad, Ian, its as if there is a little bit of hope left. i liked this book, although in a few parts it dragged a bit, so i gave it 4/5
Shaniece gave Life, Interrupted 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.
Azhar from Allerton Grange High School
I liked this book because it was just about a normal family that were going through a hard time. It went through loads of emotions and made it easy for the reader to connect with the characters. I especially felt sorry for Luke when he asked Polly why his mum had to die and why he had no parents. I think this book is really emotional and would recommend it to other people.

I really enjoyed this book becase it had all emotions. When i would put the book down i would pick it up again and read some more. It was that good i`d read it whenever i had the chance to. It was shocking when the mum revealed she had cancer because i never guessed it. I would of given it a 5 but some of the bits i didnt understand but i`m sure if i read it again i would of understood it and given it a 5
Katie gave Life, Interrupted 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.
Anna from Boston Spa School
I really liked the ideas behind Life, Interrupted and I thought it had a great storyline!
The story starts in a normal house in a normal town. The main characters are the 2 brothers called Jesse (11) and Luke (15), living with their mum called Patty/ Pat. Their dad has left, but then suddenly their mum starts to have pains in her back and shoulder and Luke and Jesse's worlds are turned around!
There are lots of good points about this book: the storyline is great and I really like all the problems the two brothers have to face which brings them closer than before!
I also think that there are a few areas that could be improved in my opinion: there are a lot of sad things happening in Life, Interrupted like the illnesses and family problems, but in the end it didn't answer all of my questions. I also think that the bit about the funeral was a little uneventful and maybe there could be a few dilemmas, but these are all minor problem.
Overall, I think this is a great book and I think that readers and non-readers alike would love reading this book just as much as I did!
Anna gave Life, Interrupted 5 out of 5.
James from Allerton High School
This book was easy to get into. It wasn't really to my taste being sad. This is a very realistic book it could happen in real life. Even though it wasn't to be taste I could the author's point of view. It is like he is trying to get a message across. Maybe something similar happened to the author, like a family member dieing of cancer. The author wants people to know what these disease is like and what it causes to the diseased but most of all to the family.
Since it was not really my kind of book but I could see the author's views and message I gave it a three.
James gave Life, Interrupted 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Glittering Eye.
Vanessa from Allerton Grange
I thought it was a quite sad book but some parts were funny. I thought it was quite realistic, about how people actually deal with tragedies like their mums dying. It makes you empathize with Luke, who is a well-written and believable character.

I like this book because it really made you think about how this affects other people in real life. It was very sad and you got to understand the characters well. The end was a bit predictable but it was interesting to read and quite sad. It wasn't the best book I have read so far but it wasn't the worst. I would reccommend it to a friend though.
Beth gave Life, Interrupted 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.
Grace from Benton Park
I liked this book because it is quite exciting and funny at times. It tells the story of a boy, and his football obsessed younger brother. They live a perfectly normal life until their mum colapses in the hospital where she works as a nurse. It shows how they cope when their life is turned upsidedown. I didn't give this book 5 out of 5 because I don't like sad books and this is probably one of the saddest boks I have ever read(but that is just my opinion). Another reason why I didn't give it top marks is because when you have read a bit you can sort of tell what is going to happen in the rest of the book so it doesn't drag you in that much. I liked the scene where they are all trying on wigs, But the best one is probably when Jesse is playing in the finals.
Grace gave Life, Interrupted 3 out of 5 and now plans to read The Glittering Eye.

I thought it was a brilliant book!!! It grabs you straight into the story and it doesn't let you go. Following the life of luke can be sad at times but funny aswell. I would definitley recomend it to a friend.
