Chloe from Parklands
I really enjoyed the book for the first few chapters, because the plot was, at first, very clever. I loved the idea of discovering a new species - an intelligentish species. However, as the story moved on, the plot became more fantastical and unbelievable. I think a lot of readers would be confused when the creatures suddenly learned to fly. This is an adaption that would not be possible in real life. To compliment the book, the characters are very believable and the reader can understand their feelings perfectly. Also, any other writer would find it very hard to duplicate Steve Voake's ability of discription. Mabye if J.R.R. Tolkien came back from the dead...
Chloe gave Blood Hunters 2 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.
Isobel from Saint Marys Menston
i really enjoyed this book and i would definetly read it again. it was written amazingly and i could always follow it unlike other books. i gave it a 4 out of 5 because it was brilliant but the only thing wrong with it was that the gore didnt really appeal to me. it would be a 4 and a half out of 5 if i could do that though considering there wasnt as much gore as i thought there would be! i would recommend it to anyone and everyone because it is absolutely amazing and is a great read. once i started i didnt want to stop, it just drew me in closer and was so gripping at so many points of it! i would give you one tip though if your not a fan of gore and monsters and that is dont read it at night! tee hee hee!!! read this book, you shouldnt regret it!
Isobel gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.
CHARLOTTE from TEMPLE MOOR HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE COLLAGE
I think that this book was hard to get in to, however it did have an amazing plot! The whole idea was so well thought out. The characters were so realistic it was like you could meet them in person!!
CHARLOTTE gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5.

Overall Blood Hunters is a good book containing lots of interesting bits, as with all good books it hooks you till the end and even after finished it gives the feeling that a sequel will follow. An example is the connection it makes to the target audience to me starts creating ideas at the back of a persons mind of you being one of these people your fighting against, the threat and your showing bravery and skill. Even though it is fiction it does have a streak of truth.
In summary I would like to give Blood Hunters 5 out of 5 because it has 2 things that people might say don't mix in the same book

Sojourner-Truth from Allerton Grange
I would recommend this book for younger readers of around nine to ten who like the occasional thriller and non-stop action. Although I thought the end of the book was quite predictable I liked the style of the writing and loved the structure of the chapters. I don't think this is a bad book because it speaks the truth about how humans butting into nature might just be the cause of their extinction.
Sojourner-Truth gave Blood Hunters 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.
Sarah from Temple Moor High School
I thought that blood hunters was ace!!!!! It had a brilliant plot which scared me so much I couldn't sleep for a week but thats just me. The characters are really interesting and help to bring the book to life. It was so vivid that I could see the scenes happening! That is why I gave it 5 out of 5.

Gripping thriller with a good plot, a good read if you like the genre. However I don't feel like the ending was as good as the rest of the story.

Personally, this book is very mixed for me. I like the idea of the scientists finding this monster and it growing, so basically I like the science aspect of this book, but the gory side of them ripping everyone up and eating them really doesn't appeal to me and that is what brings the book down.
isobel gave Blood Hunters 3 out of 5.
Charlotte from Woodkirk High School
this was good at setting the scene even while keeping you interested. it was fastpaced and i found it exciting. it surprised me as well because i didn't expect the monsters to come back. it was intelligent and really well written. i was hooked from the beginning.
Charlotte gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5.
Georgina from Temple Moor High School
I think that Blood Hunters was a great book. Very detailed, and constantly interesting, I was hooked until the very end. The only flaw I noticed was that there wasn't as much action as I had first percieved, and the creatures didn't really catch my interest much. That is why I give this book 4 out of 5.
Georgina gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.

I liked this book best out of all of them. So i gave it a 5. It is very easy to understand, and very good language!

I really enjoyed this book and really liked the beginning where the bully gets punched and the person that punches him becomes freinds with him. I also liked the plot twists cause they really had me confused and I like books that confuse me.

Great book!!The whole concept of the plot was amazing there were strong characters and they developed really well. The idea of the creatures was very clever and how they were multiplying so quickly. It just shows that humans will not always be supreme over the rest of the world. One day something will have to happen to keep us in check and this is a very imaginative way of putting it.Its a fast paced book and instantly grips you from the beginning so you read it in know time at all.The description of the creatures is very good and you get a clear sense of how they progress into the greater world and how they grow through such a short time. You also get a strong sense of how fearful people are getting and at points it really opens your eyes to what really could happen. It makes you think how helpless we would be against a force like this which is quite scary. The overall plot is great but can be a little bit fake towards the end. There could also be a bit more background information about Mexico and where the creatures came from.Technically its not very taxing but this is probably why it is in the 11-14 category its a great 'story' though.Brilliant book and definatly up there with the best books in the competition.
Jasmine gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.
Neha from Pudsey GrangeField
This book was amzaing it had lots of new things events happening. The chapters were confusing because it started with differnet ways. Then through the book I understood why the author did that. Although the book should be 4 and half. The character were adventrous. My favourite character was Joe.The book was full with action I would reccomened it to my people that you should read this book because it is full of action.
Neha gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.

I have been reading Blood Hunters. Having read only one other book from the 6 available I’m not sure if it is one of my favourite books yet. I liked the cover of the book and a good cover; I think makes you look forward to reading something. The story line was fast to get into. The plot isn't amazing, but I did like a lot of it. It was horror which meant for me to like it. The various characters had nice interaction and I liked how every character had a story to tell which is something often neglected in books. The story could change at any time, I liked that it kept the book as a page turner! Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. Blood Hunters is a great book about a young boy, finding himself in a scary situation beyond his control. Joe finds himself a new friend but on the negative side, his father gets arrested and people all around him are getting killed. The author has tried to capture the reader by trying to make the book unusual; I have to say that he has succeeded. Over all I enjoyed the book and thought it was a good read, I have rated it an impressive 4 out of 5. Well worth a read!
Ashleligh gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.

I loved it! The characters and storyline were portrayed really well, and I especially loved Giles, with all the weird, but inspirational things he came out with! I didn't think I would like it, as I tend not to read scary stories, but it was awesome! A must read for... well, anyone!

Darren from Boston Spa School
This is alright and I think it's the best of the 4 novels in this catergory I have so far read. The plot isn't amazing, but I did like a lot of it. It was horror which meant for me to like it, it had a mountain to climb. The various characters had nice interaction and I liked how every character had a story to tell which is something often neglected in books. Everyone succeeded in the end and I liked how quickly the story could change from negative to positive. I'm doing a short review because this book is so short but good. I liked how it wasn't just mindless killing like most horror books which go along the line of "The lets kill every person just cos we can book.". It was totally believable and had nice character developement, although once again both main characters have lost a parent. I'm going to moan about this cliché on this review but I could have done it on any book, why is it that almost every children's book involves children who at least on of their parents is either dead, evil, mad, lost, kidnapped, dead, ill, dead, hiding a dark secret, dead. What is the point? In the 11 books I have read from 11 - 16 range, 9 of them include one of them (the 2 that don't are "stolen" and "the glittering eye"). I said dead a few times because so many books have a single parent or the child is an orphan ( 7 out of 11), even "Harry Potter" has that cliché in it, how many children are actually orphaned or living with a single parent well over 75 percent of this based on the books on this awards. Add relaism, don't make all the kids the same. Anyway, back to Blood Hunters, great novel, the best characters I've read about int his book award and an alright horror setting gives it a good mark off me.
Darren gave Blood Hunters 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.
Tamara from Boston Spa School
I quite liked this book, although i can only say it is something you'd read if you wanted to kill a few hours, it is overall really good. Even though I heard people say that they got confused and they didn't like how the book switched between places, I really liked it because it showed more depth to the story and how the creatures where affecting other people in a different country and areas, whilst also tying it in with the main storyline
Tamara gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5.
Liam from Temple Moor High School
Blood Hunters is a great book about a young boy, finding himself in a scary situation beyond his control. Joe (the main character) finds himself a new friend but on the negative side, his father gets arrested and people all around him are getting killed. The author has tried to capture the reader by trying to make the book unusual; I have to say that he has succeeded. The reason that this book got a 4 rating and not a five is because near the end of the book it becomes confusing and it drifts from one place to another. Overall this book is very good and I would like to praise the author for making a very unique book.
Liam gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.
Natasha from Boston spa high school
I really enjoyed this book! It was very different and unsual to books i normally read because it was discusting and scary and i normally go for less action packed books. The ideas that the author had were very original and when you thought the creature was gone it came back better!! Dispite the fact that it was original i thought that the book was a bit rushed towards the end and could have been explained in further detail. Another point is that it could have had less characters because when it came to the end of the book i got confused of which character was who. Throughout the book i was trying to work out what was happening it was like solving a mystery and i think that it is a good factor to have in a book! Also i liked the way the auther described the creaature. From the start it pulled me in with the cover and the blurb and i am glad to have read it ! I gave it a 4\5 as i think it is a fairly good book with lots of action.
Natasha gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Life, Interrupted.

It was good, it is also like soliving a mystery. How the monsters emerge out of the water is pretty impressive.

kieran from DYCA
I thought the book was great, I couldn't put it down it's just one of them books that gets you on the edge of your seat with your heart racing. I would recommend any one to read it especialy if they enjoy slightly scarier storys and action packed paragraphs that fly by. It's so good I found myself reading 130 pages in the first couple of hours. It's good because you get to see it from Joe's point of view and other victims. Also when you think its all over the auther comes back with 1 final big push.
Read it you won't regret it.
kieran gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.

I didn't really like blood hunters which to be honest suprised me because it looked like a great read from the cover and the blurb I just found it to cliched and i dont think it reached its full potnetial.

Abigail from Garforth Community College
This is a good book, but not really one of my favorites. The plot is quite a good one, filled with action and mystery. Some people could find it confusing as the plot jumps back and fourth between Joe's story and the stories of the victims. Gradually the story becomes clearer, putting the reader back on course. It is a quite short book of 200 pages, a very easy read. I would recomend it to year 5 or 6 to read.
Abigail gave Blood Hunters 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.
Ellen from Boston Spa
I thought Blood Hunters was a good book but it was a bit confusing as in parts you jumped around from different scenes and it was difficult to follow where you were. I don't like the way that the chapters don't really follow on from one to the other because it makes me think I have missed part of the story. I really liked the characters. I think it would have been better if the little stories that happened in it, like the plumber getting his hand biten/cut off, could have carried on a little longer because otherwise they were a bit pointless. Overall I thought it was an good book.
Ellen gave Blood Hunters 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Malice.
Frances from Pudsey Grangefeild school
When I started reading this book it didn't seem like the blurb said it would be like but when I read chapter 2 then action started and there was also a lot of mystery which made me want to read more. The charactor swiching was hard to keep track of but when the story started joining togeather it all made sense and was really well written. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a bit of action.
Frances gave Blood Hunters 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.
Gugandeep from Allerton High School
This book was a little boring to begin with but as you progressed, it became really interesting. The storline is really imaginative. Many people may have found it gruesome but from my point of view, it was different from any other book i've read (in a good way!)
Gugandeep gave Blood Hunters 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.

I think this book was really good, but it was aimed more for boys. The plot for thhis book was really good. I will read this book again and again.
Jodie gave Blood Hunters 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Life, Interrupted.
Rachael from Pudsey Grangefield
This book was great! Lots of action and exciting twists in this book. I was a bit confused at first with the way chapters changed all the time. After a few chapters I realised why he did this. I loved the way Steve made all of the action seem real. I would reccomend this book to anyone who likes lots of action and anyone who likes snake like creatures that eat people's flesh.
Rachael gave Blood Hunters 5 out of 5.
Derry from Rodillian
This book was a gripping thriller, action packed and exciting. The book was gory so I think boys would like this book more than girls, however I enjoyed this book and I couldnt put it down!
Derry gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.
jack from temple moor
i loved this book it was just the type i like with the way it flicked between storylines taking you from an exiting bit to a bit thats still building up and the way the story moves at a pace that isnt two fast or two slow At some points it did seem two short also i liked how the book ended it was a bit of a cliff hanger and a bit of a happily ever after and in the lead up to the end the creatures come back and trow another attack ,wich is perfect because a second ago the writer was starting the make out everything normall again but then its as if he changes his mind and just throws in a bit of action.
over a great book ☺
jack gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.
Azhar from Allerton Grange High School
I enjoyed reading the book. I liked how the author switches between all the charactors, so that you are able to see their take on the situation. I loved the twist and how the monsters came back stronger. The book did end too fast, I think there should have been more of a fight between the humans and the monsters towards the end. I would only recommend the book to some people.
Azhar gave Blood Hunters 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.
Laura from Rodillian High School
I enjoyed this boook, it grabbed my attention and enjoyed it, though a easy read I would read it agian, I'd say it's aimed more at boys than girls. I might not recommend it but I felt it was incomplete, as it had more than one type of creatures, it would have been easier to write 2 stories.
Laura gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.
Hannah from Boston Spa School
I think that blood hunters was quite a good book. I would maybe not recommend it as a good book, just for people who like slimey snakey gory books. It finishes very quickly and I didn't really get what happened at the end. It felt like the publisher forgot to put about fifty of the pages in!
Hannah gave Blood Hunters 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Life, Interrupted.
Grace from Benton Park
I really enjoyed this book because of the way it jumps from place place, although this can be a bit confusing at times. I liked the idea of introducing the characters to the monsters by putting one of them under arrest for murder. I also like the fact that, when the charaters have started to relax, the monstrers vome back in a new and exciting way. My favorite character was definately Giles because he is kind and helps Joe cope with his father's arrest. This book can be gory at times, but I would recomed it to anyone who doesn't mind that. Once you picked it up you won't want to put it down utill you have finished it, and then you will want to read it again!
Grace gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Life, Interrupted.
Georgina from Boston Spa
I really enjoyed reading this book because when you get started you dont want to finish and has many exciting parts
However it was confusing to follow when the plot change to the scientists
I enjoyed this book and really want it to go on
I would recommend it to all book lovers !!!!

James from Allerton High School
This book was very intresting with the mystery of who was doing the attacks and where it came from. The way in places we knew what happened but the charecters were confused and mystified. The book had many parts where the charecters where being hunted by unknown creatures. the way the fear seemed to push out of the book to you. The way then just when the charecterrs started to relax only to find that some creatures had escaped and matured to somehting totally different which had more problems that the charecters had to face. The bit that I enjoyed was where the charecters were under attack but still trying to piece together the jigsaw puzzle. There were some let downs where the author put in things which did't fit or where complicated. At the end with the giant flies the author trys to rush to the end and I didn't like the guns in it.
But overall I would say this bookk was brillant and a must read!
James gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.
Abigail from Boston Spa
I like the book blood hunters because it is a very interesting book and it is also a good developed book. I gave it 4 out of 5 because it is a good book for people who like a quick and easy read. I would recommend this book to people who like an a book with lots of horrible deaths.
Abigail gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Colony.
Shaniece from Allerton Grange High School
i really liked this book because I loved the story line and the characters- Giles was my favorite. While reading i found myself thinking about how i myself would react in the situations- it was that beleiveable! i really liked the way the writer swiched from differant locations and how the main character, Joe, wanted to help his father, though he was not always on top of the ball. i would definately reccomend it, and would love for it to suceed!
Shaniece gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5.
Sana from Boston Spa
This was a great book and was really intresting. It was very easy to get into and when i got to the 2nd chapatar i really didnt want to stop reading it! When i finished the book i was sad because i wanted to read on. i would defanatly recomend this book to all boys and girls who are intrested in action type of books!

Anna from Boston Spa Comprehensive High School
I think that the book Blood Hunters is a good book because its quite interesting and when you start it it's easy to get into. Also it makes you want to finish it because it's got a good storyline and though it sounds bad, wanting to finish a book, its in a good way, because overall you just want to find out for yourself what happens to the characters.
I think Blood Hunters is bad because its confusing when it changes from the life of Joe the school-boy to the scientists expedition to the sinkhole. I also think that its bad because at the end it all happens really quickly with the giant butterflies/caterpillars destroyed and its as if the author rushes to get to the end!
I rated this book 4 stars out of 5 because although the book was a great idea and everything, the writing style wasn't really for me and the author never developed his ideas in detail.
Anna gave Blood Hunters 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Running on the Cracks.
Danny from Benton park
I think this is an excellent book for every one who likes action and doesn't get confused easly with books. There are many different characters in the story and with each one somthing exiting is happening! My favourite character is giles because he is kind and under stands people.

The whole idea of the book was excellent, but I didn't enjoy the writing style. It was too jerky for my taste, the story was never really developed in detail.
