I thought that this book was quite depressing especially how she seems to just give up on herself quite early on. I thought the style of writing was good and how her brother Cal was presented was really good. I thought that her character was quite boring but the idea of her having a list made it more interesting. I thought the way her list progressed from things that were less meaningful to more meaningful was quite a nice touch especially as when she died at the end she seemed to have made her own journey through the cancer.
The story shows a girl and her friend making a list of things she wants to achieve before she dies from the cancer that has nearly beaten her. It takes a new look at the pressures and feelings of a girl suffering from cancer and how she doesn’t try and change the world just cope with it herself. I thought that the pressure on her family was shown quite well but the character of herself did let it down slightly.

I think this book is excellent. I have recommended it to several other students who all really enjoyed it too. It is moving yet funny. I will definately be voting for this title.

I think this book was very sad and touching, it also made me feel sort of guilty to be absouloutly fine while other people are suffering tremendously. I soon as I read the blurb I knew the book would be about cancer, I don't know why though. I liked the idea of a list of things top do "before you die" and as I was reading it I thought I would do the same if I was dying of cancer or some other disease. The only bad parts of the book were parts when there was a lot of boring conversation with not much happening, but there wasn't too much of that.

I think I just found my favourite book of all time. Before I Die is a beautifully written book with believable characters and a truly moving plot. It explores issues that are hard to put into writing and gives an in depth look into the troubles of living with cancer. Not only does it show how it effects Tessa, who has only a few weeks to live, but it also shows how her illness effects those around her. It changes your views on lots of things and makes you really appreciate life and want to live it to the full. Although the book was quite sad towards the end I thought that it was a heart warming story and one that I'm never going to forget. I would recommend this book to my friends and in fact already have =D ….

Before I Die is the most poignant book I've read, it digs deep down inside you and after reading it, I had to sit and think for a few minutes. It is written in such a positive way although it is such a negative book in so many ways. It makes you think about the world and appreciate our life in ways nothing else could. It is an outstanding book with my only criticism being sometimes it dragged on a bit.

Gemma from Boston Spa School
I really liked this book because it was very emotional and is beautifully written. It makes you realise how important your life is and that you should make sure you enjoy it. The characters are realistic and there feelings and emotions are well described. It's really sad because it could be happening to lots of people in real life. I would recommend it.

I didn't like this book even though the issue it addresses is very serious, but I thought that it just gave you a lot of facts on what it is like to have cancer and the treatments that you have to go through. The book was extremely sad and I was in tears for most of it but I didn't really want to read on. I got bored with this book as I couldn't relate to any of the characters and it is not the type of book that I would normally read.

Zoe from Boston Spa School
I liked this book as it was very real and it was quite awful to think this is happening to people in our world I think Jenny Downham descibes the feeling and emotion to make it. This book takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions and it is such an extraordianry book and makes you really understand the saying "Life is for Living" ...

Before I Die by Jenny Downham is a very moving book. I found that whilst I was reading it began to think about what i would do had i been in her situation. I felt really sorry for her little brother and other friends and family members as she was so young. Overall I really enjoy the book and can't wait for Jenny Downham's next book. Would recomend.

'Before I Die' is a truly touching story but can become slightly repetitive, after a few chapters. As you connect with the main character, you gather emotion for her and her family. Jenny Downham has a powerful talent that is unknown to most.
Sophia gave Before I Die 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Creature of the Night.

I thought that this would be a very depressing book, but it wasn't. It is a very moving story but is very funny in places too. The characters are believable as they swirl around Tessa as she copes with illness. It's a book you have to keep reading even though you're afraid of the ending. I'd highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this book, it is writen with immense skill,it showed that life is really worth living and not to take advantage of things, it is a true heartbreaking story and once you pick it up you cannot put it down. The book was a bit disturbing though so i would recomend it to older readers.

Georgi from Boston Spa School
This is an extraordinary book. It really makes you feel that life is for living, and to make sure that you get to do as many things as you want before its too late. The characters are very realistic. I found the story sad towards the end, but not for most of the book. I would really recommend this to anyone that hasn't yet read it.

i loved this book. it was really upsetting. it follows the life of a girl who is about to die from cancer. it really portrays what life would be like if you were definitely going to die and only had a few weeks to live. there are some parts of this book which are a bit disturbing although it is directed at older readers.

Anna from Roundhay High School
I really liked this book because some people may have been through this and you never stop and think about it but this book can't not raise the issue of cancer. When I got to the end of the book I nearly cried because someone being so useless like that is not a happy thought.
Anna gave Before I Die 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Broken Soup.
filippa from Roundhay School
this book really is fantastic. it is so sad and so true and it really makes you look at life in a totally different way. it will make you cry but also it will make you happy to just be alive. from that first page you go on a heartbreaking journey and you wont be able to just abondon this story because a bond is created between you and the main character. even in them last few pages when it gets harder and harder to read, you have to finish the book. this is something that no matter how many other books you read, it will always be one you will remember. a truly amazing book.

Before I Die was a lovely and touching book to read.It makes you see how ordinary little things are worth so much in life but are usually forgotten or taken for granted,as many things are.The book makes you want to live life to the full and be happy about how lucky we all are to have one because there are some people in the world who don't have that chance or choice. Its a heart warming read and shows what a teenage girl really wants in life. She will also meet someone who will stay with her till the end.You should read this book as it will stay with you forever and remind you of the good things that happen to us all.
