the start is really interesting it holds you to wonder what is going to happen to Nadie.but after that it turns boring and so i didnt read the rest of it.

A World Away is about a girl – Nadie - who comes from (Native) America and is based in the 1500s. She ends up in Plymouth where she meets Tom and when she returns to America he comes with her as part of the group hoping to colonize America. They get separated in America but it ends with them together (I think.)

The start is good because it holds your interest as you wonder what is going to happen to Nadie and it is interesting to see her point of view of England and you see England from that perspective at the time and the prejudice but also exclusivity regarding a coloured person in 1500 England. It starts to drag a bit with not much happening except her meeting Tom and resenting the rest of England in general and it is quite confusing remembering all the different people who brought her from America and who she meets since but she goes on the voyage back to her home and there are problems when she gets there and the group splits. She waits for her mother’s death but I didn’t find there to be much emotion as she apparently struggled over the conflict in her feelings of waiting for her mother’s death and wanting it to hurry so she could see Tom again and I thought this could have been stronger. Then there is a while and she leaves her family in shame and finds out that Tom is dead. Then she disappears in depression and I thought that it wasn’t even as emotional here as it could be and then in the last few pages it appeared Tom was alive but I couldn’t tell if he had returned or if she was dreaming.

Overall I thought the book was good but the relationships were quite weak and some of her emotions were not explored as well as they could. The storyline was good but occasionally confusing and there were a lot of deaths which should have had more impact than they did because you didn’t really know the character. It was an interesting outlook on the lives of Nadie and Tom but didn’t hold much interest after a while and although I would recommend the book it is not one of my favourites and I probably won’t read it again.

Having the book date back to old british times, was a very good and original idea. It tells the life of a girl who is taken away from her home, to a British town across the 'sea' and ends up falling in love with Tom. When the girl is returned she has to choose between Tom and her family. What else could be more original? Although, at parts it seemed very long and started drifting away from the original story-line it was a good book that I felt I should read. It might not have been the best book I have ever read but it did have a gripping story-line, which all books HAVE to have to get my attention! Overall the book was written extremely well, and I should remember the authors name, because I would like to read more of her books.

this was a good, emotional storyline, however it was difficult to get into at first. it did drag on slightly and this book could have been improved with a fast-paced, more climatic story.
though, i did enjoy this book because the characters were believable and to portray the story from two different perspectives was a dangerous choice to make because it could have become over complicated but it really worked.
pauline francis is a very good authour, however her speciality is obviously historic, so i think it would be intresting to see her move away from that field.

Definitely not the best but it was one that I enjoyed at some points. I don’t think that this book was amazing because at points in the book you wished the characters would just GET ON WITH IT because it was dragged on for too long. There weren’t many twists in this book which disappointed me a bit because it made it quite predictable. Even at the end, where I think there was a poor attempt at a twist in the plot, I guessed exactly what would happen and it ruined it. Not one I’d recommend I don’t think =/….

I liked this book because I like historical fiction in general and this was a change to what I normally read. The relationship between Tom and Nadie was quite weak and I thought that emotions were a bit empty at times. The storyline was good but it dragged and lost some of my interest but the end was confusing - I couldn't tell if ... was dead or not.

I felt it was a book that provided more sleepiness than enjoyment. It was well written with a loppy plot and over-complicated chapters. I feel many parts of this book were similar in style to Raven Queen which was far better, but still my favourite. It had a bad plot to start off with and inaccurate descriptions of 16th Century places (I did my research) and I think it is so difficult to get into to, let alone finish.

This book was good but I didn't think it was anything special. I liked the way that you get different points of view throughout the book so you know what two main characters are feeling all the way through the book. I thought this book got better towards the end as more happened and I knew the characters better. I don't think Nadie would have had the freedom that she had in the book because women didn't have equal rights in England in the 16th century, so I don't think people would have listened to what she had to say.

I gave this book a 2 because I agreed with zoe,I didn't really like it and I just couldn't get into it. I think that it was a really nice book but I can't think of anything else to say about it. I guess that if you like historical fiction you might like it but I wouldn't reccomend it to a friend. Sorry!

I only gave this a 2 because I found it quite boring as it was not my type of book.

This book is written beautifully and even though it is quite difficult to read, once you are reading it you have to finish it! The story is told really well through the eyes of two different people and you follow the plot in two different ways.I thought that the ending was really good and the characters are believable. The plot was quite simple but still fantastic! READ THIS BOOK!

Georgi from Boston Spa School

I thought this book described the characters very well and I could really feel what emotions people were going through .I thought that the ending was good but left a bit of a cliff hanger which i dont seem to like because I wanted to know what exactly what happened to everyone before the book ended. I would recommend it to certain groups of people who like reading a book all about love and how far they would go for there loved one.
