Creature of the Night is a book about a 14 year old boy named Bobby, who is just moving away from Dublin to the Country. He’s determined not to go. He hates it there, because of his misbehaving ways in Dublin with his mates, and he’s determined to get back. He’ll stop at nothing to get there. Especially since his arrival was more than a little… Weird. Stories about fairies and magic flying around. However, as he stays there for longer he realises that things may be more true than they first appeared.

Creature of the Night is a very well written book and is good for many reasons. For one it’s a very mysterious book - you want to find out what’s going on, and if he’s going to go back to Dublin. What also makes this book good is that the way it’s written makes you want to carry on reading - This is because the story seems to hold away the important facts to the important moment, stringing you on until you find out what you want to know. It’s also gripping because of the way the book itself is structured – There’s a new chapter every few pages, which makes you want to read another one, just because it’s small, but then you read another, and another, and another, etc.

There are also a couple of bad things about this book- For one the story can tend to be a little… Confusing where a lot of information is jammed in and explanations aren’t really easily explained. All in all this is a pretty good book, which is a great read, even if you stay up all night.

This book is ok i guess but the plot is quite predictable and nothing much happens. The characters we described ok but I couldn't really picture them in too much detail. Even now I find it hard to remember all of what happened which isnt that good. Overall I have given this a 3 as I would only recommend this to a certain type of reader.

The plot doesnt get developed and the story focuses way too much on drugs. What was working on the farm, and the psycho fairy child have to do with anything? I would give thiis 0, but you cant do that o this site.

This book is myserious, exciting, and thrilling. I liked the way Bobby slowly adapted to his new life at the the farm in Ireland - from being a teenage delinquent to being a helpful person who has an interest in fixing cars. However I also think that the faeries and murder didn't need to be included in the book.

Creature of the Night was an amazingly well thought out story with the slow change of the charcter persistant and well done. The ending was perfect, it left a cliffhanger but no more needed to be said, it was how it was supposed end, nice and simple, I like the contrast between the rural and urban life but in my opinion, the only thing that spoilt the book was the fairy and the murder which I felt was too unrealistic and just didn't need to be there.

I liked this book but it wasn't as good as I thought it might have been. I think everything should have been developed more to make it more interesting because it seemed like nothing much happened. I didn't like the ending because it just kind of cut off with out actually explaining what happened so it was quite disappointing at the end.

Having read other Kate Thompson books, I was intrigued to read the blurb for this one. I read it over three or four nights in bed when I was tired and I don't know whether this added to the story or detracted from it! I'm still not sure what I made of it. I loved the whimsical aspects of Irish folklore and fairies and, although I didn't like the aspects of Bobby's life in Dublin, I thought they contrasted well with his new rural life and the conflict between the two. I read the other reviews and agree that the end is left hanging for you to make of it what you will ... I won't say any more as I don't want a spoiler alert! If I had time, I would read this again to do it more justice but it certainly deserves its place on the short-list and is well-placed in the 14-16 yrs category.

I enjoyed the begining of this book, but I disliked the way that the main character kept leaving to go back to dublin, but everytime he did, nothing vaguely interesting happened.
After that, it starts to get interesting. but then it stops.
That s it. it has a end chapter which is set a few years after the 'incidents' but it is quite 'boring'.
Nothing happens.
I would reccommend that the author would have thought of an alternate ending.
Otherwise a good book.

Ellie from Boston Spa School

I really didn’t like this book because its sooo slow. Nothing happened and all the events just seemed disjointed and they never really seemed to be explained. Just when it became vaguely exciting it just ended, as if there was a really good ending but it just was missed out and not published. Not one id recommend ….

I found that Creature of the Night was a bit slow, it took a long time to get into the story and then once it got interesting it ended. The overall plot was great though and it was actually an interesting read.

Creature of the Night was a great read.Mystery, suspense all rolled into one.It has a unbelievablly strange storyline and characters which make you want to read faster and faster. This makes it a really interesting book to read with twists and turns which lead you to think different things.Although the book was really good I was a bit disappointed with the ending. It certainly was a good ending but it just needed to tell a bit more about what happpened I think. It leaves you slightly in the dark but your imagination fills in the gaps to create different possible solutions for the ending.Overall the book was brilliant and I would certainly read it again.

I loved this book so much. I liked Bobby and his strange wild life in Dublin. All he really wanted was to go back. He makes a friend and finds out some weird secrets. It was freaky and mysterious...

this really isnt my type of book but i read it because it sounded intresting. but, i was disappointed. its as if there are three stories going on at once, and the authour isnt sure which is which. if she'd have developed one of the storylines more than this book could have worked, but it just didnt. there was the main storyline about a boy who was out of control so his mum moved him and him 4 year old brother to the countryside. this was the majority of the story, and it worked well but then the story line of a 'fairy' came in later. its as if the authour made a half hearted attempt at this because it lacked mystery and development. furthermore, in the last few chapters an old murder *i wont say which though* came in and it just got too much. its not that it was confusing, because it was easy to understand but to me. the whole plot was too mixed up. i was disappointed. :(

This is a book that i would definitely recomend, it is mysterious and exciting and i love the way it has been written. It is a book that you can easily imagine the characters to and i think the book has a beautifuly magical feel to it.
