Jessica from Waterloo Primary School

I found the book interesting. It was slow and spent lots time on little details so could of worked harder on developing the plot. The life was relativly boring and not something I really care about. Other than that, it was well written and could be good but I really isn't my type of book. xxxxxxxxxx

Ever since 11 year old Martha's mum died. Her dad is acticing strange first he jumps of a roof then he does not like the trash can and gets more strange. So Marth is in charge. To find out why dad's acting so strange read the book. It's mostly for ages 7+.If you like mysteries then read it.

harisah from Pudsey Bolton Royd

This book is out standing literaly outstanding, without a doubt this book is amazing. The author has used emotive languege for us too to feel sory for the charecter ,to change opinion of the charecter. It has a mix of romance funnyness sadness happyness tention and at the end its like it just wants you to flud into tears, because its so happy at the end.The effort put into this book so much. This is not only a highly recomendable book but an insirational story. Its like it puts you in a position were you dont want to put the book down but want to read more instantly.Martha is a calm cerene person with a alchoholic addicted druk dad,she handles the hard situations pretty well, but Tug is her little brother he has also handled situations, for his age very well.A wonderful book that should be read from all.I think this book ,might be one of my favourite.

I thought this book was brilliant.I was SO absorbed,I thought that I was really in there with them all! Martha had some real problems on her hands, however she got though it! I thought that this book was sad and also happy at times. This book was very realistic with real life problems!I think during the middle of the book it got a little bit boring however the book did grab my attention. At some bits I thought that this book is not for me!!

I gave moon pie pie a five because it had me wanting to read more beginning to end.
My favourite character is tug because he is funny I could imagine him sitting there eating his steak and kidney pie.The book is a very funny book however at times it can be very sad aswell.I could relate to the the character of tug because we both like pie and act like a child.I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who is bored and wants to be cheered up.When I finished this book I wanted to read another one of his books he is truly a great author. good read

craig gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Gold Seekers.

Charlie Ann from Victoria Primary School

This book is highly recommendable!! If this was a film it would be most viewed in the cinema. Simon Mason is a amazingly talented author with great detail in his books! Moon Pie however is just as good as it sounds! I have never really got into a book as much as this. Me personally I could actually put myself in Martha's (main character) shoes somehow. No wonder this book is in the Leeds book award as it is phenomenal!!! WOW!!

Charlie Ann gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Sky Hawk.

Ellie from Victoria Primary School

I gave Moon Pie a 5 out of 5 because it was an amazing book!! Martha is my favourite character because she is unbelivebly grown up,all she really wants to do is have the old dad back and trys to help him become that.I would highly recommend this book to most of my friends because they all really like realistic fiction and thats what this book is about.I think a lot of people could relate to the situatations,so please read this book !!!

I really enjoyed this book at first I thought it would be girly. But how wrong I was. It was exciting funny and imaginative. It was quite sad but the near the end it got happier.I would want to read other books by Simon Mason. The dad is probably the craziest person I have ever read about. So well done Simon Mason !!!!

Logan gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Magicalamity.

Afnan from Kirkstall Valley Primary School

I thought that Moon pie was a really good book but it was a very sad story too.I think if you really liked books and spent time reading it,your brain could imagine what is happening. When you think tha the ending is coming up,something changes and then it tries to get solved again.

Afnan gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Gold Seekers.

Niamh from St. Margarets cofe primary horsforth

brilliant book makes you think you are martha and your brother is tug it makes you think what if i was in the same position as martha because you never want to put it down i read it in an instant

Lucas from St Josephs catholic primary school Pudsey

Technically I would give it 3.5 however I rounded. I liked this book however the beginning was a bit boring however it got better. My favourite character was tug.

Lucas gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5.

Sho Fin from Southroyd primary

I rate this 5 cos it's sad and funny at the same time. You sorta feel sorry for Martha about what her dad's doing. It started off a bit slow though and it took a while for me to get into it, but when you do, it's really good

Sho Fin gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5.

Adam from Allerton Church Of England Primary School

I really like this book because it is really funny but sometimes it can be really sad. I love this book!!

Adam gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

Ben from Farsley Farfield Primary

I thought this book alright. It coped with real problems and the storyline was quite good.

However, it was quite random. I didn't get how Martha kept looking at the moon and comparing it to something else. Sometimes, it was also quite boring like when she was staying a Grandma's and the same thing kept happening over and over again.

Nevertheless, it was well written and made you understand Martha as there wasn't a scene were Martha was not in. At first when I looked at the cover it looked a bit to girlly but it wasn't too girly.

I would never normally read a book like this but I thought it was quite good.

Overall, this book has its pros and cons but has more pros than cons.

Ben gave Moon Pie 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

Finlay from AdelStJohn

Charlotte from Pudsey Waterloo Primary School

Moon Pie is an amazing book, although sometimes heart achingly sad. The words chosen drew me in and I couldn't put it down!
I definately related to the main character of the story, Martha... I understood her point of view, because of how Simon Mason described her feelings and opinion. That's why I think that Moon Pie should be chosen for the Leeds Book Award winner!

Charlotte gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5.

Emily from Carlton Primary School

It was a good book, but a boring one. This book is about everyday life. It could be a bit more excitable like Simon could of used a twist.

Emily gave Moon Pie 3 out of 5.

I found this book very interesting, but at the same time it was funny and weird. It was funny because Martha was trying to proove to everyone that the moon was made of pie and that everything could be solved with pie! I give this book a 4 out of 5 and I think Simon Mason is a really good author.

Eleanor gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Gold Seekers.

Daniel from Ryecroft Primary school

This time i was reading moon pie and it was alright. My mim didnt read this book because she thought it was for children only, the best part is when the moon comes out (I really like moons)The part i didnt like is when the mother dies.

Daniel gave Moon Pie 3 out of 5.

SARAH from broadgate primary

THIS IS AWSOME BUT A LITTLE SAD THATS WHY I GIVE IT A 4 OUT OF 5

SARAH gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Gold Seekers.

Imogen from Wigton Moor Primary School

I found Moon Pie very random, and I thought that the story was bouncing around alot so I didn't really enjoy the story. The concept was very realistic, which was good since I could really understand how Martha felt. When Martha kept on looking out of the window and comparing the moon to different things I found it very strange. At the end there was one problem that hadn't been solveed that I think should have been. There could possibly be a sequel but I don't rally know if I'd read it.

Imogen gave Moon Pie 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

Mueen from Pudsey Bolton Royd

My book review is all about a girl call Martha who has a dad and he always is always drunk, everyday he does a terrible and bad thing.I would recomend you to read this brilliant book because it is like you are leaving your town and world. Now It is like you are in this book going on the fantastic adventures meeting different and interesting characters. It would be BRILLIANT for you to read this book!

Mueen gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Sky Hawk.

William from St.Josephs RC Primary School

I LOVED Moon Pie as it is full of twists and turns, sadness, hard decisions and funniness. All of this was key in making this book perfect although the book's name didn't have a thing to do with Moon and Pie - apart from when Tug kept asking and asking and asking for Steak and Kidney pie. I would always recommend this to another child my age.

William gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Magicalamity.

Samuel from Sharp Lane Primary School

This book is truly amazing!
It's just like a real life story .
It makes you laugh it makes you cry!

Hollie from Harehills Primary

When I first started to read Moon Pie I was enjoying it, I loved the way it started as I got to chapter 20-21 I started to lose interest. I lost interest because the same thing keeps happening and its dragging a little bit. In my opinion I believe that the author of the book could have got to the point a bit quicker. Its a really good book at first but I'm a little impatient so I start to get bored. That's only my opinion. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books.

Hollie gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

Kaysha from Harehills Primary

I like this book because it is so good but the only thing is that when it is a new chapter it doesn\'t tell you what it is about. I have read up to page 59 so far.

Kaysha gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Gold Seekers.

William from St Josephs RC Primary School

I loved Moon Pie because it was like a rollacoaster. There was lots of twists and turns, loop the loops and neck-breaking speed. Although at some part it was really really hard to read furthermore the word 'strange' and 'odd' were used way too much however I think that gave the book its special touch.

William gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Magicalamity.

Antonia from St Joseph's RC Primary Wetherby

This book was great i loved the whole story and how it all came out in the end.....There were so many cliff hangers which really got you into the story which i thought was FANTASITC! It really gets you into the story and gets you on the edge of your seat your think oh yes what is going to happen? Also it's great getting to know about the characters alot! The only thing is about this book is it tell's you a bit about wine and beer. Its all about the dad therefore it gets abit boring! However i did like this book and i certaintly would like to read this again!

Antonia gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Gravenhunger.

Luke from Wigton Moor Primary School

It was ok and the story line was fine but The way he developed it wasn't very good. The illustration on the front cover made it seem girly but it wasn't that girly. My favorite charcter is Marcus in his Mankini.

Lucy from Kirkstall valley primary school

I think that 'Moon Pie' is a mysterious and funny book I think Martha is very bossy and loves taking care of her crazy mad dad.I loved reading Moon Pie I can't wait to read more books by Simon Mason I think he has a very creative imagination of what happened to Martha,Tug[christopher]and their dad! Who takes their children to a midnight picnic their dad is the maddest person I have ever read about in a book.I love the kind of character Martha is she can be sweet to Tug but, when she finds out that her dad has a secret there is a whole other side to her.I would recommend this fantastic book to people who like comedy and the people who like to get left on a cliff hanger after every chapter!!!

Lucy gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

I thought Moon Pie was one of the best books Ive ever read because it had things in it that could really happen in real life. It could be really sad and really happy. I could not put it down every time I finished a chapter I really wanted to read more.

Rachel gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

Jade from Cookridge Primary School

I think this book was interesting because it made me think how would a real person feel like if it happened to them. But i didn't like the bit where Dad was laying and had been sick. I really enjoyed it and would love to read another one of Simon Masons books.

Jade gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Gold Seekers.

Holly from Cookridge Primary School

I thought it was an extremely good book as it had real life problems in it. I would say that this book desserves 5 out of 5. I liked this book because it was a really serious book but some parts was very funny.

Holly gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Gold Seekers.

Chelsea from Cookridge Primary School year 6

I thought the book was interesting but a bit naughty because of all the wine and bear bottles and the dad wanting a girlfriend. His daughter tried to help him. It was very realistic so it was a serious book but true to real life.

Chelsea gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

Dad is a funny charactor , i enjoyed reading when he was a bit silly. This book shows how marther ,his oldest dauter and only, is nerviovs around things and shows her feelings towards the family situation.

Moon pie is an interesting and funny book about a dad who just cant stop being strange! Other things to look out for are:
a boy called tug
broken flamingos
and disastarus trips to the swimming pool!
Only 4 stars though cause the begining is a bit boring!

Bridie gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Sky Hawk.

This book is very intresting because it puts the reader face to face with real situations. It will make you feel sad, worried, scared, exited and at some parts it will even make you laugh out loud.I think most people who read this book will finish it; it is an overall fantastic book!!!

This book is amazing!!!!!!!!! When I read the first couple of pages I was so intrigued by how the author,Simon Mason, Described everything in such detail and that is what intreuged me so much that I could not put this book down it was so incredible. By far one of the best books I have ever read in my entire life. I would reccomend this book to anyone that likes reading about problems and dilemmas!!!!!!

Marielle from Alwoodley Primary

This book was fantastic! I really enjoyed reading this and I was gripped from the start. Each chapter was really interesting and was full of different problems, I really liked how the author based the story on real life problems. It was my sort of book and I'd recommend it to all ages. Martha faces many problems, will her to-do list ever end? Read to find out!

Marielle gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

Amy from Wigton Moor Primary School

Moon Pie was really good overall and I would reccomend it to readers who like to read about problems. The book is about a girl who has to look after her family and what happens along the way. There is a lot of problems and they all want to make you read on. There is a roller-coaster of emotions in this book sometimes it's really sad, sometimes it's really funny and sometimes it's really happy. There is one problem at the end which isn't solved so the ending isn't that good. The blurb is really good because it's mysterious. The title doesn't make any sense until the last few pages.I really enjoyed this book and would defiently reccomend it to readers over nine because it might upset younger readers.

Amy gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Gravenhunger.

Macy from Allerton c of e primary school

Moon pie is a really good book i really enjoyed it. It is about an 11 year old girl and her brother tug and her crazy dad.I recommend it to people who enjoy reading large books.
I think the best part of the book is when they go on a midnight picnic.

Thank you simon mason for writing this book.

Macy gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

Molly from beeston primary school

Moon pie is really intresting I like how the author has used real life situations wich could acherly happen to your self. When I started reading i coudent put it down .
The basic story is there is 2 children and after there mother had died there farther had been acting quite odd and the little boy who is his son is only young and starts to get suspicous while his sister is acting with her best friend has a hobbie .When things start to go really wrong Grandma steps in and calls social services .

Molly gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

Caitlan from Ryecroft Primary School

Moon Pie is a realy good book but it was sad when they got taken away from their father. I cant even choose my best part because it is too much of a good book it hink this book is suitable foe ages-9 onwards.

Caitlan gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Gold Seekers.

Molly from Carlton Primary School

I did not really enjoy this book because it kept on repeating itself by saying what Martha does around the house and that dad should have a girlfriend. At the front of the book where Marcus said he likes Hollywood movies but it does not really explain that very well.

Molly gave Moon Pie 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Gold Seekers.

Georgia from Alwoodley Primary School

Joely from Crossley Street Primary School

Moon Pie is a very good book, it is sweet and funny!
There is a girl called Martha and her brother called Tug, plus she has a CRAZY dad!
Moon pie has got 327 pages so I would recommened it to really good readers.
My favourite part of the book is when Martha and Tug try and find their dad a girlfriend, but in the end do they find a girl for him?
Simon Mason is a new author to me but it looks like he is one of my favourites now because this book was really good and now I want to read more and more of these kind of books.

Robert from St Joseph's RC Primary,Wetherby

I think this book was good and interesting. At the start it kept me on the edge of my seat. However,it started to lose midway especially after Martha goes to the docter about Dad.This is why I gave it 4 out of 5.It didn't really grab me in this section of the book.It was VERY unpredictable which was good furthermore the balance between the dialouge, the description and the action was great. It just didn't have that WOW factor for me.Therefore,I marked it down.Nevertheless a fantastic book with an interesting plot.I would recommend it to anyone. It wasen't my type of book really,I like action. However,it was an enjoyable read.

Robert gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Muncle Trogg.

Hannah from St Josephs Wetherby

the book was very funny. i liked the fact that the 2 boys were silly and the girl was the sensible one!i think during the middle of the book it got a little bit boring because not much was going on(that is why it got a 4/5 insted of a 5/5). at the start of the book the auther4 grabbed my attention immediatly then he started to loose me! some people might like this book better i am not saying the book was bed i am just saying it wasn't really my type of book. people who are intosilly behaveure and stuff ike that might like this book better than i did. if the auther would like to make the book better i would recomend that he/she should make the book shorter and more adverntureous. Nevertheless it was a remarkable book

Hannah gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5.

Abby from Broadgate primary

I would recomend this book to other people but it is a bit sad so dont read it if u get sad easily then dont read it. It is about a girl called Martha and her mum has died and she has to get used to being the one in charge because Tug, her brother is too small. Marcus, her best friend is too obsessed with Hollywood Movies and Dad - Dad is just too strange!

Abby gave Moon Pie 4 out of 5 and now plans to read Gravenhunger.

Holly from Broadgate Primary School

Moon Pie is an AMAZING BOOK!!! It is A heartwarming and sweet book.Martha has to try and live her new life in a new home without her mum because sadly her mum died when Martha was very young! She is trying to make her dad and little brother,Tug to be a family again!

Abbie from Beeston Primary

Moon Pie was a very good book and I personally think Simon Mason is a GENIUS! It's really well written and my kind of book so when we were given the shortlist it immediatly appealed to me. My favourite character was Martha because she had a really strong personallity and I probably would act like that if I were put in that situation. The ending was really good too! I think it truley deserves a 5/5!!

Abbie gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Magicalamity.

Taylor from Ryecroft Primary School

This book is about a girl calleed Martha and a boy called Tug (christopher.)Sadly their mum has just died and read them battle through their lives!I could compare this book to Lilly Alone by Jaquline Wilson because the big sister has to look after her youngher siblings.I loved this book.

Taylor gave Moon Pie 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Gravenhunger.

Isobel from Southroyd primary school

This book was alright however I have read better books befor. It seems quite funny at the start but then the truth comes out about their dad and it's really sad.

Isobel gave Moon Pie 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Sky Hawk.

john from st.josephs wetherby

The reason why I only gave moonpie 2/5 is because it just wasn't really my type of book as it was quite girly with being based on a girl called martha who has this to do list and then has a piece of moon pie and then her to do list keeps getting shorter.Although their was some fantastic vocabulary connectives openers like thunderous, grotting, lovely and some great puntuation.Nevertheless the thing that put me off was the unrealistic names like martha and tug plus the dad doesn't have a name it's just dad.Well maybe it just wsn't my type of genre it was good how it gave you loads of clues on what was gonna happen.

john gave Moon Pie 2 out of 5 and now plans to read Gold Seekers.

Francesca from Pudsey Primrose Hill Primary

This book felt very strange reading it but I don't really know why! I enjoyed the story line greatly as it seemed extremely realistic. At all times I thought I was actually Martha, the eleven year old girl going through horrid problems. The book just seemed to speak to me, like it was warning me or something! I would definitly recomend this to ten year olds or up! :) Have fun with it! :)

Anastasia from St Josephs Roman Catholic Primary School, Wetherby

I think this book was exta-ordinarily easy to get into. This book is not at all "girly" or "boyish". I enjoyed this book because it had remarkable humour but a sense of reality.
