I think that this book is certainly has a gripping storyline. I just couldn't put the book down!
McKenzie has definately written the book well as it shows what teenagers are feeling. The ending was a little predictable but... oh well!
I'd most certainly reccomend it to 11-14 year olds... maybe the older categorie.

Gugandeep gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read A Perfect Ten.

Sara from St Marys Menston

As soon as I had read the first chapter of this book I new it had that special ingreedience that would stop me putting it down. It's all about two kids (Teo and Rachel) who are tring to find out about their past, But the further they sink in the more danger there in. Its a must read and a really thrilling and exciting book. Enjoy!

Sara gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Declaration.

Will from Allerton Grange High School

I recommend this book to all people in 11-14 yrs olds. Plenty of action in it which i enjoyed very much. Only bad comments are that it went on for too long and Romance in the end... gives me the cringes.

A cool book! The plot is exciting and gripping, and at some points even slightly scary! Theo and Rachel the main charactors, sounded real and in someways (not all) you could realy connect with them! When i first looked at the cover I didn't think it would be my type but once i got into it I couldn't put it down!! I would recommend this book to other people, and i would also recommend Girl missing; which is by the same auther and is also a thriller/romance! A great book!

Roshni gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Kiss of Death.

Belinda from Benton Park

It is an imaginitive story and the dual narration is something you don't get in other books and makes it more interesting.

Jenny from Benton Park Technology College

Blood Ties is about a normal boy and a normal girl that always thought that they were different from the rest. Now they are absolutely certain that they are. When Rachel and Theo meet neither of them know that they will uncover a hidden secret that will change both of their lives forever...
I thought that Blood Ties was a very unique book filled with mystery and secret love. The book is set for a teenage audience, probably more for girls than boys but boys may still enjoy it. At first I had a little bit of trouble understanding it but once I got in to it I found it rather enjoyable and soon I couldn’t put the book down. In this particular book I do not have a favourite character as I didn’t find that a specific character stood out from the rest. Overall I would say that it was a unique book and I would recommend it to people who like a book about something different to what most people read about.

Jenny gave Blood Ties 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Invisible City.

Sara from St Mary's School Menston

I like it how they show it from Theo and Rachel's perspective Has lots of action and Juicy Info

Theo finds out that his father that he thought was a dead soldier is actually a genetic scientist that is in hiding after his research clinic was firebombed by an anti-cloning group. He is determined to find him. His search leads to Rachel, whose father worked in the clinic with his father, but left. Rachel has meanwhile has received a mysterious text from a number she doesn’t recognise, but it has her fathers name on it. When they meet up they are found by the anti-cloning group, but are rescued by people who work for Theo’s dad. He tells them the disturbing truth of who they are.

The dual narration is a nice twist and the story is imaginative

Belinda gave Blood Ties 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Kiss of Death.

Alex from Benton Park

After reading so many reviews telling me how brilliant this story was I couldn't wait to pick it up and read, but to be honest I was really very disappointed with it. The introduction was very dull but I thought, I'd better read on, it will probably get better but unfortunately I was wrong. There was only one good point that I could find about the book, and that was the end!!
I just cannot believe the fantastic reviews this book has been recieving, it is just unbelievable.

This was a great book with a fantastic storyline, loveable characters, and a surprise around every corner. This was probably my favourite!

Daniel gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5.

Harry from Benton Park Technology College

This book had a very good plot. I highlighted the issues of cloning, gender selection and test tube babies. It has a heart pounding transition from which a boy and a girl are pushed from being completely oblivious to knowing everything about themselves. A greatr, fast paced book.

Harry gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Invisible City.

Emma from Allerton Grange

Gemma from Boston Spa School

This book was fantastic. It was really exciting and had a good plot. I liked how it switched between the two characters, that made it easy to understand and it ment that most chapters ended on a cliffhanger. I would definitely recommend it.

Gemma gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Declaration.

Sophie from Boston Spa School

This book is unbelievably amazing!!! People say they find it hard to put books down , on this book i didnt put it down i read it from start to end without stopping!!! It is incredibly well written with twists and turns on everypage!! When you think you understand it you dont when you think you've geussed what will happen the plot twists! The BEST book I have read all year!! I would give it more marks than the declaration if I could even though they are both outstandingly real and well written! I would suggest this to anyone who likes to read as I feel it does not have a group it could be specified into it is a : Romance , Mistory , Teenagers , Adults anyone could read it and enjoy it !!!

Laila from City of Leeds High School

"Amazing" The portrayal of the characters in the story made me believe they are real in this world. I like the way she uses different emotions between the characters and there are a lot of twists and tension. The way each chapter jumps from one character to another gives you the idea how they think and sense their feelings to each other. I will stick with this book to wiin and relly recommend it to all the members or non-memebers to read it.

Laila gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5.

Amy from St. Mary's Catholic Comprehensive

This book is really amazing and my fav. book. I rated this book 5 because it had a good layout with the 3 parts, and i liked the fact that it made u feel happy, sad, scared and shocked about the different atmospheres e.t.c.
i like it when they got split up and that there was a lot of good detail. I also liked the fact that it made it hard to put the book down.

Amy gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read A Perfect Ten.

Amy from Ossett

Full of action and surprises the plot is creative and exciting with many turns along the way to keep you guessing. This book grabs the reader's imagination with almost life like situations. Both boys and girls cn relate to this book as it encounters many of the problems that teenagers face today. I think this book is a great read as its ever changing plot is fast moving and makes the reader want to read more and more. The fast continual plot keeps the book in your hands, not wanting to put it down. I recommend this book to all teenagers and I can't wait to read another book by Sophie McKenzie.

Amy gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5.

Dominique from Ossett School & Sixth Form

Blood Ties is a very interesting book. In each chapter it leaves you on a cliff hanger because it switches from Theo to rachel and so on. I recommend this book to all young teenagers because the storyline is interesting but some of it deals with important issues in life and can help with difficult situations. I think anyone who is a teenager will enjoy this book.

Dominique gave Blood Ties 4 out of 5.

Clare from Temple Moor

Plot
I really enjoyed reading this book, and it was mainly due to the suspense and excitement of the plot. I thought that the story was believable and definitely triggered lots of thoughts and emotions about the content; like cloning for instance, it opened my eyes about the truth and harshness of it; how cruel it could be if people actually did clone humans! And I now look at cloning in a different way; certainly am more educated about it, and all because of this book! I think it was ended well too- I still felt excited at the end, and was very glad when it turned out to be a happy ending!

Characterisation
The characters again were believable and real; I felt a lot of empathy for both of them; and I thought the way the author linked in normal teenage worries with the worries of the so abnormal situation that the characters were facing- was really good! This made it easy to feel empathy and relate to the characters myself.

Writing Style
It depends on someone's personal writing style as to whether they like how a book is told, and I found it clear and easy to understand, though not too descriptive or detailed. Despite this, the style told the story well, with short sentences adding lots of suspense and tension!

Final Comments
Overall, "Blood Ties" was a really good book, I couldn't put it down until I had actually finished it! Every book has it's flaws though, and the only negative was the not very descriptive style of writing. I would definitely recommend the book to teenagers who enjoy a good adventure and thriller; it was really good, whilst being an eye-opener to the very real issue of cloning. Great book!

Maddy from Boston Spa School

I thought this was a really really good book. I had a really exciting and unusual plot that kept you rooted to your seat. The characters were extremely well described, especially Theo who sounds gorgeous! The way it was written, switching between the two characters, mad it easier to understand and you could really feel the characters emotions as you read the book. I would really reccomend the book, it is one of my favourites so far!

Maddy gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5.

Roshni from Roundhay

I thought this book was a thrilling and exciting read. The plot was quite predictable judging by the title and the clues let loose in the story although the author might've meant for it to be that way! Who knows? I liked this book though and would recomend it!

Roshni gave Blood Ties 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Declaration.

Steven from Temple Moor

I really liked this book and the little twists it had in it. It was strange that the two main characters Theo and Rachel happened to be clones. It was also strange that Theo's mum lied and gave him a photograph of his dad which wasn't actually his dad instead of giving him the picture of the person who made him. It was also strange that Rachel's parents got somebody to make a clone of their own dead daughter. I would read this book again as I enjoyed it.

Steven gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Declaration.

Laura from Boston Spa School

I found blood ties an amazing book, that really made me feel for the characters. It has many unexpected twists and turns, and this is what makes it so enjoyable. It is a definately a book that I would recommend to my friends, and would really like to read a sequel.

Laura gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5.

Ellie from Boston Spa School

This is probably my choice for this award ( its either this or declaration!! ) because it was really fast paced and it was really hard to put down. I think because it switches between the thoughts of the two main characters it make it quite simple to understand when there are two main events going on. Also it shows how both Theo and Rachel’s feelings and emotions develop throughout the book so you feel you can really get to know them.
Overall I thought it was an amazing book with an amazingly gripping plot. The only problem I found was drifting off into daydreams about Theo (gorgeous) !!!!

Ellie gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5.

Zoe from Boston Spa School

OMG!! This book is fab, great, fantastic and exhilerating!!! There is always something happening and when you turn the page BAM!! something new appears and you are totally in a new situation. Also the book really gets you thinking about a ton of different things I mean after every page it's WHO? WHY? WHERE? HOW? I love the way Sophie McKenzie portrays the characters and the fact that you get both characters point of veiw is an added bonus !! Finally it is fast, pacey and I don't know what can top it!!!

Zoe gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Scared to Death.

Hannah from Temple Moor

I absolutely loved this book and the way Sophie Mckenzie portrayed both characters. Normally i don't like books that jump from character to character but this was different. It was a real page turner and once i picked it up i couldnt put it down. It proves what a excellent author Sophie Mckenzie is because all of her books are as good as this one.

Hannah gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Declaration.

Georgina from Temple Moor High School

This book is excellent, a book that I could never put down. A clever writing style, showing what both children thought inside their heads. Would definitely buy if I saw it in a shop. Sophie McKenzie is clealy a talented autho. Keep on writing is what I say!

Sam from Allerton Grange High School

Great book with a great plot and brilliantly written. I really enjoyed this book however, It seemed to go on and on and on... at the end and I didn't like the lovey-duvvy bits. I still thought it was a great book and really enjoyed it.

Sam gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Kiss of Death.

Rebecca from Morley High

i love books and this is my all time best. it took my about 2 days to read because i could not put it down, it was a real page turner and i loved every page . i thought some of the characters are a bit un real because of the things they do and the ways they do also because of how crul they could be to get someone on there side, but i thought it was a fast moving book with a ace ending.i hope the other are as goood because this is the best book i have ever read.

Rebecca gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Scared to Death.

Joe from Morley High

I really enjoyed this book because I could easily get into it and i think it has a great plot. It created tension at key times; although it seemed farfetched at times it was nearly unoticable because of the brilliant use emotions by Sophie Mckenzie. I also enjoyed how the chapters were in a pattern because if Theo said something I wanted to know what rachel thought about it. I hope to see a sequel

Joe gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read Scared to Death.

Tonicha from Morley High School

This was a fantastic idea for a book, a real thriller that I would really recommend reading. It was so complex and yet so easy to understand and follow. The pace was fantastic - it was fast enough that it didn't get boring, but was slow enough that I could follow it. The way chapters switched between points of view was a fantastic idea; it was still easy to follow, but meant you know what each of the 2 very memorable characters was doing. The setting was very real and I felt like I was there with the characters. Absolutely amazing!

Tonicha gave Blood Ties 4 out of 5 and now plans to read A Perfect Ten.

Rebecca from Morley High

a very good book-when you read it you ca't put it down the charactures are very complex and hard to get, when the story takes a unexpected turn for the worste at the end it really makes you think.

An amazing book, it has surprisers that you would never guess.I say this would be my favourite books out of the ones ive read so far. A brilliant read!

Joshua gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Declaration.

Rianne from Boston Spa School

I think that this book is one of the best- I can't decide between this and The Declaration for this category!! It was good because it was fast paced and exciting and you really get to know the characters (Theo sounds HOT!!) and so you get into the story easily, although it is quite complicated so younger people might not understand. The way it is written makes it a gripping story which is amazing!!

Rianne gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Declaration.

Darren from Boston Spa School

Blood Ties was a book, I really liked but there were many flaws in this book. It thrilled me throughout all 400 pages and I couldn't put it down. But it had an overcomplicated plot which let it down and the final ending left many questions unanswered. The charcters were well thought out and gave the book the touch which most impressed me and the points of view which constantly changed were excellantly written. Overall, I enjoyed this book and but a few things stopped it getting a higher score.

Darren gave Blood Ties 3 out of 5 and now plans to read Scared to Death.

Georgi from Boston Spa School

At first I thought the storyline might be quite hard to understand, but I really got into it quickly and couldnt put it down. I liked both the characters in the book as much as each other. Overall I gave this book a 5 out of 5 beacuse I think the story line is really gripping and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it.

Georgi gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Declaration.

Ella from Roundhay School Technology College

This book was a thrilling adventure to read, it made me belive that it was real. Theo and Rachel were like real people, i felt that i could really connect with them, understand their feelings and emotions. Sophie McKenzie is an amazing author, her books are exiting and once i'd picked the book up i couldn't put it down. I think i really 'got' Rachel, she was just an average teenage girl, all the teenage problems, just like any other average teenager. Living in the shodow of another person, not quite reaching expectations, then suddenly, her world was completely turned upsidedown, it was an amazing story. I would really recomend this book, especially to teenagers of 11 to 16. It is for both girls and boys but i'm a girl and i thoroughly enjoyed it. To start of i didn't really get it but after a while i couldn't stop reading it! I have loved reading for a long time and i think this book is definatley one of the best books i have read!!!!

Ella gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read A Perfect Ten.

AZHAR from ALLERTON GRANGE HIGH SCHOOL

I ENJOYED THE BOOK BECAUSE OF THE SUSPENSION AND MYSTERY. IN PLACES THERE WERE TWISTS AND IT WAS SOMETIMES UNPREDICTABLE.

AZHAR gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Kiss of Death.

Charlotte from Boston Spa School

"SPOILER ALERT!" As I am just getting into my teenage years, this book really got to me. I don't think I have read anything such like it but I deffinately want to read more by Sophie McKenzie because I just love her work. It is so exciting and when Reading the book I was always at the edge of my seat. The style of writing amazes me and I love the way the tale is told through the eyes of two children going on an adventure that will make them more mature in how they see the world. That is how I felt after Reading the book. It scares my that somehow the story is amazingly real and the reader has a feeling of this happening at this very moment. I also agree with Mrs O, the added twist of a main character dying very near the end keeps me gripped. Completely 5 out of 5!

Charlotte gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Declaration.

Mrs O from Roundhay School Technology College

"SPOILER ALERT!" I read "Blood Ties" first because I'd heard good reports about Sophie McKenzie from our pupils and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about! I was absolutely transfixed by this story and read it until my eyes smarted. I agree with Jasmine that it was pacy and the idea of having chapters written in turn by the two main characters helped the story to flow really well. The plot was quite sophisticated and mature, and I was shocked by the death of a main character towards the end. As a 50+ person, the story also brought back for me the squirming feelings, uncertainties and joys of teenage relationships - I thought I'd forgotten all that! A great read for boys and girls alike.

Mrs O gave Blood Ties 4 out of 5 and now plans to read The Kiss of Death.

Emily from Roundhay

I loved this book it really gets you exited! Once you pick it up and start to read it you just can't put it down! The plot is quite easy to follow and it has some surpirising twists which kept me reading until the story had finished. The way the story is written is really interesting as it follows the story through two children's eyes. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

Emily gave Blood Ties 5 out of 5 and now plans to read The Declaration.

Jasmine from Boston Spa School

Well were do I start. This book was amazing!!!!!!It was fast pacey and exciting. It is the one of the best books I have ever read.As you turn each page a new shock or exciting dilemma happens. This book will take you on one heck of an amazing journey. The characters have really good personalities which makes you stick by them right to the end. They will find out disturbing things out about themselves and each other, but this will bring them closer together in order to make new lives for themselves. You must read this because it is the best. Its definitely in for the runnings.I'll be suprised if it doesn't at least make second place.
